I'm looking for a bucket with wheels. I don't care if its ugly, if it whines, or does not have air conditioning. I just want to put a car seat for my son in it and drive from school, work and home which is less than 20-30 miles a day. I know I am not going to get anything long lasting for cheap. I am just a little desperate for options. Anyone see something sitting to the side with a sign up or have a recommendation for a small dealership that they know about?

You're sure to find a cheap ride on Florida. They're everywhere.

The biggest thing you left out is how much you can afford. There are plenty of people here that will help you search but they have to know what you can afford.

Figure in insurance, tax, title, and license, then subtract that from the money you have earmarked for a car purchase. These things must be paid for and are non-negotiable.

A good rule of thumb is to stay away from those evil little lots.

For honest advice I'd avoid any "buy here pay here" lot. Look for cars for sale by owner and bring them to a mechanic you trust for inspection

Jefforize, I would jump on the deal if it were real and available to me. I'm just looking at something less than 1500 to tide me over until I can save a little more to get a better vehicle. Getting to school, work, and daycare in a reasonable amount of time is a little difficult with a toddler on the city bus.

Thanks guys. I am a little nervous with the little lots but was hoping there would be one that wasn't as terrible. I live near LSU, so I will try scouting for students wanting to get rid of their old rusty buckets.

Stalk Craigslist, news on wheels, steals and deals, Internet sites like cargurus, truecar. Especially if you are paying cash. Get a mechanic to look at anything first though. If any seller won't let you take the car to a mechanic then forget them.

I don't trust the cheap car lots but if you are paying cash you could avoid their finance scams at least.

Consider an older civic hatchback or accord or camry.

If you got a toddler man, please get something with A/C. It's going to get hot pretty quick there in Louisiana

Are you sure you want to put a small child in a car without AC?

In my 20s I had a car without AC for about a year. It was rough.

This is Craigslist.

The are asking 2k but cash is always king. He may take $1500 for it. Since it is Craig's list, be vigilant.
