Why do people, locals included, spell and pronounce Fontainebleau as "Fountainbleau" like a water "fountain?" It was named after a forest in France, and the "Font" in the name should be pronounced as "Font."

I have never heard it pronounced one way or the other. Perhaps your f@ggoty little faux French city is not quite as important as you fancy it.

Fountain-blue. Locals technically pronounce locations wrong all the time. Exhibit A: People from LOO-EE-VILL say LOO-uh-VULL. The common pronunciation of Los Angeles would technically be wrong, too.

Kind of like New Orleans (New Orlins) and Baton Rouge (Batten Rouge).

I really don't think so. Some locals pronounce it correctly, some do not. Heck, most of them spell it casually as "fountain" as well, which confirms the incorrectness of it all. Enthusiasts on YouTube (take that FWIW) usually pronounce it correctly.

There is not font in fountain. There is a fount in fountain, but no font soooo how do you not understand people pronouncing it phonetically.

I hate it when people pronounce it as "inspection sticker" instead of the proper French "brake tag"
