Josey Wales is the best western IMO
And the line "y'all gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?" is the best line of the movie

Josey Wales as a movie is yes is probably not even a top 5 western. Good Bad and Ugly, Once Upon a Time, and multiple John Wayne movies are better....
But as far as badasses go I would say yes, Wales is at the top of the list. Plus the final scene is just unbelievably good. LINK

I prefer Unforgiven, but Josey Wales is right there

Why didn't he just cut the rope on his side of the river?

McCabe & Mrs Miller is easily the best western for me.
Josey Wales is probably top 10, but its really not close to top 5.
Shane, The Searchers, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Rio Bravo, and Unforgiven are easily better imo.

The Long Riders > Josey Wales. The first half of Josey Wales was all right, then it got kinda silly what with Clint making it a vehicle for his then-girlfriend.

5. The Searchers
6. Outlaw Josey Wales
7. True Grit

10. For a Few Dollars More

Josey Wales, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, and High Plains Drifter and such a good fricking trio for Clint and that's not even counting all the other great stuff he did. One of my favorite under the radar movies that could almost be considered a western is Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

No.
I like TGBU better. Red River as well.

Agreed. Harmonica was the best. The opening scene set the stage at the train station. The facial shots on Fonda as he found himself screwed by his own men in the street. And, the last dual between him and HARMONICA was as good as the one in G,B,&U.

Damn, no mention of Pale Rider in this thread? Definitely one of my Eastwood favorites.

Anton Sugar is up there. Although a modern western.
I prefer Munney as well.
"It's got nothing to do with deserve" is one of the most BA lines of all time.
