Potential Dodger/Cubs trade discussion: Baez for De Leon+

So yea, it's pretty unlikely the Dodgers and Cubs make a trade considering the position they hold in the NL. However, if there were any two front offices to do so, it would be these.
So, let's say that the dozier talks never pick up again and the Dodgers have to move on to another 2B option. I have seen a couple people throw baez around and Dave Cameron actually mentioned it today
So, for the Cubs baws on tMSB. What do you think it would take to get a deal for baez done centered around Jose De Leon if the talks ever started?

I'm assuming, if offered JDL, another minor piece but I don't know

Baez defense is so valuable. Hopefully he continues to improve at the plate this year. He kind of fell into some old habits and pretty much abandoned his plate discipline in the latter portion of the postseason

Also have to like his power

Yep. He can change the game with one swing. In a big spot though he sometimes goes up there swinging at anything though.

the Cubs arent trading Baez after the postseason he just had. He's younger than De Leon, has had success in the MLB, on a nice contract, and most of all his defense is immeasurable

I think the idea behind it is that the Cubs have a middle infield log jam and could use a young, controlled pitcher that has, at the bare minimum, a high floor while the Dodgers have a log jam of starting pitchers and desperately need a second baseman
There are obviously other factors, but both really do make a pretty good match given their needs and where they have depth to deal from

if they wanted to trade him for a pitcher it wont be De Leon. It will be someone with some MLB success already

And I'd hope the Dodgers would go with a second baseman that has a track record as well. But both teams could definitely do worse than baez and JDL

I'd rather see the Dodgers pony up for a 2 year extension on Ian Kinsler's contract and get him. Sure he is getting older but he can still play at a high level.

If we could get kinsler to only a 2 year extension I think wed do it but doesn't he want more?

This is just a Dave Cameron hypothetical, not a real trade out there.
You want Baez? Well, give us Urias then. Young hitters are worth more than worth young pitchers.

they are not.

Not worth more, but young hitters are always deemed "safer", yes?

that's a good question. A hitter like Baez no, but in general probably yes.

Baez was nearly a 3 win player last year in 450 plate appearances. He offers premium defense and power potential. If everything clicks, then he could be a star.
Baez De Leon+ may have happened last year, but Baez's stock is way up and JDL went down.

I don't see the cubs letting Baez go, although his trade value could be at it's peak right now. Baez is very young and has the potential to turn into a Jeter/ Arod type of career. This year will either be boom or bat for him most likely. He mostly likely continues to improve, but could also easily slump.
The cubs have a long history of under performing young pitchers. They either get hurt or the cubs trade them right before they peak. While young pitchers values are very high their risk is also. At least with Baez you got a guy that can play defense for years and possibly offer some back of the order power for years.

quote:in what way did JDL's stock go down? 17 innings at the major league level doesnt really do anything for ones stock
but Baez's stock is way up and JDL went down.
