Stability was a big negative recruiting issue for us up until after the bowl game. We had the O hire, which drew plenty of comments. We had to publicly lock down Dave Aranda. There were questions about whether Raymond would move on. Peveto was let go. It took a while for all of that to shake out.
Not sure if that's a legit reasoning.
Look at the instability right now at BAMA with all the rumors floating around about Tosh and Cristobal. Two of their top recruiters. Way too many moving parts for neither of them to take other positions. But I have to remember that these are kids and are ,more than likely, very impressionable and believe these guys when they're saying "oh, I'm not going anywhere!"
Then Signing Day rolls around and these coaches leave.
What I don't understand, is if a coach knows he's leaving after Signing Day, why are they still recruiting for someone he knows he's not going to coach? There's nothing in it for said recruiter, IMO.

I'm sure they're contractually obligated to continue recruiting until they leave the program.
Posted on 1/13/17 at 9:39 am to kmcmah1
Its their job to do so until it isnt. Its the kids who get screwed over once that happens.

Not exactly the same as a head coach getting dropped. Alabama always has staff turnover and they always reload. Their overall situation is pretty stable in the end.

No I don't believe him just stating what I saw

According to Tim watts it was Alabama's l decision to move his visit trip next weekend so he could be apart of their.big recruiting weekend next weekend
This wasn't Bama's decision. They wouldn't change the kids visit plans less than a day before he's set to arrive.

quote:yep, it's progress on recruit that's high on LSU's board that we're trying to flip.
Could be interesting, I'll say that...
ANY progress on a SECW opponent flip is great, and is not to undervalued. It's an uphill battle, but you can't get there without such progress. I'm still in the 'hope' stage on this one, but it's better than nothing.
quote:Not to be negative, just wanting information... do we know that he canceled his Bama trip, period OR did he just cancel it for this weekend (and rescheduled for next)? Important distinction. If we're last visit, hell yeah!!
Jimmy said on Facebook he's cancelling Bama trip to now visit LSU. HUGE

He changed the visit. He decided to go to LSU this weekend. As of now, hes saying he will go to Bama next weekend. We will try to end it this weekend

So all in this weekend, likely if doesn't happen at visit it's not happening. With the note, we won't necessarily know if he flips. Probably info put out, but no guarantee.

Correct. If he leaves this weekend and still takes the Bama trip, I do not like our chances.
Of course, theres still other LSU targets going on that Bama trip as weel like Todd Harris and Mathis, so who knows

Allen - Anything is possible. Kid was silently committed to LSU at one point.
Harris - I think I read that BAMA may be full on safeties. A kid from Florida just committed in the last couple of weeks that MIGHT have taken his spot. Is this depth recruiting now?
Mathis - said to be hanging out with a lot of the LSU kids at the all star games. How much water does that hold? I'm not sure.

I feel the same as you on all this. Crazy that a prospect like Harris is a wait & see approach type situation. I like where we sit with Mathis, but any kid going to Bama this close to NSD is worrisome.

Should have let him go to Bama this wknd then push hard to get him on campus next wknd. Anything that happens this wknd will likely be washed away by Saban next weekend if he still takes his visit to Bama.

quote:I disagree. CEO spent a lot of time with him recently, might lose momentum if he were to go to Bama first. And you know Shorty would pressure him to cancel that visit and shut down recruiting (which would be the momentum killer).

Strike while the iron is hot and go for the shut down to our benefit.

O knew that if he let Allen go to Tuscaloosa this weekend, there was a good chance he never gets Allen on campus. Hate him or not, Saban knows how to close the deal these remaining weeks. At least this way O can give him a full sales pitch and hope it sticks. A whole lot better than nothing

I agree that getting him on campus is a good work by CEO. Coach O hasn't given up. That's just not in his DNA. He doesn't give up until NSD and sometimes even after.
But people are calling this huge. Is it really that huge? There are no moral victories in recruiting. This is LSU we're talking about. This isn't ULM. Now if ULM got Allen to pay them a visit, that would be huge. But LSU getting a guy who grew up in Baton Rouge to pay a visit, that's not huge. That should be expected.
When Coach O flips this kid, that will be huge.

Not sure - I saw in one story that Aranda thinks he can be used in a variety of ways, inside and out.
