CSB:

A buddy and I rode the tilt a whirl at the fair when we were about 11. Shortly after the ride began, my buddy busted his nose on the steel bar, and it started bleeding profusely. By the time the ride was over, the two of us and the tilt a whirl car had blood all over us. Carny ride operator just stared at us as we exited the ride. He obviously gave zero fricks.

Nothing beat throwing $20 worth of darts to win one of these gems.

Eddie: “Yeah, I got the daughter in the clinic, getting cured off the Wild Turkey. And, the older boy, bless his soul, is preparing for his career.”
Clark: “College?”
Eddie: “Carnival.”
Clark: “You got to be proud.”
Eddie: “Oh, yeah. Yeah, last season he was a pixie-dust spreader on the Tilt-O-Whirl. He thinks that maybe next year, He’ll be guessing people’s weight or barking for the Yak woman. You ever see her?”
Clark: “No.”
Eddie: “She’s got these big horns growing right out above her ears. Yeah, she’s ugly as sin, but a sweet gal. And, a hell of a good cook.”

Wild and Mad Mouses are great. It was the only roller coaster on Oahu when I was a kid. The Ft. Worth Zoo had one until the late 80's.

I did some labor/employment work for Sellner (the mfg.) in Minnesota before they sold out. All the execs at Sellner were super nice.

It was a sad day when they shut down. Tilt-A-Whirls were really remarkable - how many large industrial machines are repeatedly reassembled and unassembled each year, and still last for more than fifty years?

They are still made by another company (Larsen) in Arizona I believe.

Plenty of tilt-a-whirls from the late 20's and 30's still operate.

Gravitron or something like that. Stick to the walls while it spins, fun when I was young.

At Pontchartrain Beach in Nola, it may have been called the Rotor, located next to the Music Express. There was a whole lotta puke in the Rotor on any given night.
