disconnect the hose from the disposal, get a bucket and put hose in bucket. Turn dishwasher on and start any cycle. It should run drain pump first. if it does and water comes out under decent pressure, then you likely have an issue in the disposal or the plumbing.
If the pumped water is trickling then you have a restriction on your pump or a clog. You can clear the line with a small snake or a shot of compressed air.
On most dishwashers you can clean the area at the base and get to the impeller. You may have to remove some screws. Some dishwashers have a separate drain pump and on many of these you can't get to the impeller of that pump, only the main pump.
At worst you need a new pump and that is cheaper than a new dishwasher for sure.
Another thing you need to check for is that at some point in the run of the drain pipe it needs to be ran at a level higher than the lowest part of the sink tub. This prevents backflow.
Do the bucket test, that at least gets you in the right direction. It's what I would do first, I run it onto a wet vac.

My Bosch did this about a year ago. It was the pump. Repair was about $250 IIRC.

I had this same issue a month ago. I did all the things on here that were recommended. Ended up calling Sears to send out a technician, who told me it's the pump. You can buy the part for $50 and switch it out yourself, look it up on YouTube it's fairly simple.

Mine was doing this. Turns put the little rubber pads from a cutting board fell off and blocked the impeller. Had to pull the dishwasher out to get to the impeller underneath.

Mine did this about 6 months ago. The pump was fine but can be ordered from Amazon. The was clogged and needed to be cleared. It drains fine now.

It really depends on the unit. Some pumps are super simple 10 minute jobs, some are hard as hell and make you curse the world as you try and get them out.

I have a little CO2 canister drain clearer.
Before I had that I used to just use my lungs.

Update. I said frick it....googled a blowup if parts and location. Pump was right in the front. Took pump out and low and behold, a dann aluminum can tab was wedged not letting the pump spin.
Put pump back together and in, and BOOM!, I'm back in action.
Thank God I was home today, or I'm sure I'd have spent 500 on a repairman/repair.

Great success story! You probably saved $400. Bet that feels great, next time an appliance breaks I'll look up how to fix it. I would've messed it up with Draino or wasted money on a tech or new dishwasher.

Screen, drain line to disposal or blockage at disposal. Check all and clean. Once done, start rinse cycle, then watch pump drain to through pipe to disposal. If not, you'll need to check the pump.
