I'd check out a Kia Optima. Good looking car.
Absolutely this. You can get the high end, fully loaded turbo model a couple years old for $16-18k and it's a NICE ride.
If you want something more on the "luxury" side with a not-so-luxury price tag (but still extremely reliable), look at a Volvo S60, Infiniti G35, or a Lexus IS250. You can usually find some 2014-15 models for under $20k. The Volvo is one of the safest 4-door "sport saloons" on the road, and the Infiniti is an upgraded Nissan while the Lexus is an upgraded Toyota. These cars will have slightly higher price tags up front, but the resale down the road is much higher than their base model counterparts.

Our family has owned multiple Honda Accords and Toyota Avalons. Accord is a good car, but the Avalon rides like a Rolls Royce in comparison. And has far less road noise than the Accord,
Check one out if it fits your budget, I've bought two of ours slightly used and got good results,

I just shopped for the Toyota avalon. Super nice for interior space and I trust Toyota reliability. Ended up going with the Lexus instead due to wanting something nicer when spending so much time on the road and taking out customers, but the Avalon was nearly as nice (just liked the Lexus better).
If you can find a hyrid, that's 39 mpg too.

What model of the Mazda do you recommend?

My daughter has a 3s. It is an older one with the 2;3l. It is quick for what it is but is still a kids car.
My wife had a 6 hatchback. The hatchbacks looked like sedans though. It was a great car until it was stolen. It had enough pick up, a smooth ride and plenty of amenities.
If you go with another Altima, what dress package do you want and how much are you looking to spend?
Always do the VIN check. Most used ones have been wrecked. I bought a 2 year old Altima for $14k, out the door. It had 30k on it.

New Camry body comes out in July / september of 2017. Looks more like a Lexus than a Camry .

There's no perfect answer, my choices in that category would be-
Accord Sport Sensing
Subaru Legacy
Toyota Avalon
Good luck.

I had a 2011 Kia Optima SX. I bought it brand new and put 65k miles on it. I traded it in this April just to upsize to an SUV. I highly suggest this car. It was very sporty, peppy, and got amazing gas mileage. It aged very well and never gave me any problems. It's great if you are taller. Lots of leg room.

Give a used Passat TSi SE a look. 35+ mpg and has some giddy up with the V6.

I just bought a 2014 Mazda 6 GT because it was the perfect blend of sport and design for me. With all your mileage though, you need to get what is the lost comfortable and I'm not sure the Mazda fits that bill. I would go for a Lexus or Volvo to get the step up in material and build quality, but I hear the 2016 Mazda 6 has been a big step up.

Get the 16 Altima sport. I got the basic and while it is nice, no cruise control sucks

Recently got a new sonata with leather sun roof sports package for 19.5 and they financed it for zero percent with 1000 down. It is a great car and the best deal I have ever had. It rides really smooth and has several tech updates the others in it's class do not have yet.
I just obsessed out this same decision you are making for like two months. I decided on the sonata over the accord which was second for me.

It's wanted to bump this thread because I forgot to mention that two of my biggest pet peeves in a car are noisy and rattles
Wasn't sure if any of y'all have experienced this with any of the above mentioned choices

My wife has the 2010 Fusion. Except for regular door handle replacement and the throttle body issues it has been reliable. She also had a Passat at one time. Couldnt wait to get rid of that piece of shite. Check engine lights, emissions workshop, falling apart. If I were entertaining clients I would go with a luxury brand... Lexus, Acura, Volvo, in that order.

For the first few years these were out the transmissions went out around 50,000 miles. Has this been fixed?
I know Ford was not standing behind their product and was charging the hell out of people to fix them. I am unsure if the problem has been addressed.

Out of these choices, Honda - simply based upon reliability, reputation and resale ability.

Makes a great vehicle, although their demographic has certainly shifted in the recent years.
