What if O was never considering Kiffin but, as a friend, floated his name out there so that Lane would appear to have options and thus drive up the interest? Everyone knows Saban wasn't bringing him back to Bama in 2017. He needed options to provide leverage. perhaps O was doing his buddy a solid.

I don't personally buy this, but I think it is a theory posi-tigers may like.

Seems plausible.

I love how bama fans turn it around on me and say, oh Saban wanted him gone that's why he is leaving

So to help his friend Orgeron chose to not have an OC to bring in to the homes of Narcisse and Brennan before the dead period ended?

You do know that Bama didn't extend his contract past February 2017, right?

I don't know whether Saban wanted him gone or not, but absence of a new contract very strongly suggests Saban at the very least expected him to be gone after this season.

Pretty sure O said in his introductory presser that he wasn't hiring an OC until after the bowl game. I'm not sure that Kiffin was on the radar. Not saying he isn't deserving nor am I agreeing to this smoke screen ploy either. None the less, Canada is interviewing and he is a serious coach-in-waiting prospect.

Well, he did say he wasn't going to have an OC until after the bowl game. Also, you ARE talking about the same Orgeron who offered Tua a scholarship and effectively ran off those two QBs.

Its pretty common knowledge that Kiffin wasn't returning to Bama next season. His contract was up and there had been no talks of negotiating a new one.

This would be even worse, seeing as he may sabotaged LSU's current recruiting class to do so.

Even after 3 years at Bama Kiffin is still toxic. FAU is a long drop from USC and Tennessee. The best news - we won't have Joey Freshwater chasing our coeds around.

Here's what happened:
1) Kiffin verbally agreed to come should he not get a HC job. This was prior to O being named.
2) O was also free to look at other candidates but they both knew Kiffin was in.
3) It slowly became apparent that Kiffin may not fit in with the staff. The Tua offer is the tell.
4) It also became apparent Kiffin was not nearly as "in demand" as he thought. His baggage is extremely heavy.
5) O became inundated with OC interest. It was actually kind of unexpected. They really, really like Helfrich & Canada.
6) Remember on Friday when the FAU negotions stalled? Things appeared to be "reconciled" for Kiffin to be named OC.
7) Enter the Sexton stupidity. Sexton - with Kiffin approval- made an offer to LSU that was beyond ludicrous. He actually tried leveraging the FAU job for more money at LSU where he would already be the highest paid OC in the country.
8) Realizing their initial assessment of Kiffin was correct O & his new deputy - not Fat Goebbels- said, "Have fun in Boca".
9) It will be Helfrich or Canada. Toss up at this point.

So out of loyalty to his friend, Orgeron screws over his own school that just named him head coach.

Makes perfect sense!
