So, I was reading the Soccer board for noobs thread, but no one actually did an Italian team write up. I think I'm choosing between Juventus and Inter Milan, but apparently they hate each other. So, I need to pick one.
I think I'm going to choose Liverpool and Juve because they both won around my birth year. Seems as good a reason as any.
Unless there is some compelling reasons any of you may have to make a case for other teams.
What is the board's thoughts on picking teams to follow?
Should you choose only one team?
Should you choose one from each league to better learn the sport? - EPL, Series-A, etc?
Thanks for the input.

Just watch many different teams. Let the team come to you. You'll gravitate toward that particular team.

Yep. Watch as many games as you can. The sport is actually better when you don't have a rooting interest in some ways.

And don't harp on one league. Premier League gets the most play in the US, but there is legit quality (in some cases better...but won't hatch that argument) in Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, etc.
Just don't follow Celtic. We have one of those already.

Do you like stabbing people? Pick Juve.
Do you like racism? Pick Inter.

I wouldn't just pick. You need to let it happen as naturally as possible.
I mean, for many of us, it ultimately will be just picking, it's not like its a neighborhood team. But you can do better than just selecting based on proximity to your birthday.
Trust me, as you get into it, you'll come to learn there are distinguishing factors about the club, the club's hometown, the management, history, etc. You don't want to pick a team, invest a couple seasons and then learn there is just too much stuff you just can't live with. I don't think that is likely, but it's possible.
If I didn't have a CFB team and I picked Cal because of some arbitrary reason, it might be a little weird a few years from now when I finally went to Berkeley for a game and realized that I hate almost everyone who goes there and they hate people like me.
That's an extreme hypo, but I would watch matches and see whose play interests you. Then do a little background and see which one has history or other factors that stand out for you or you're drawn toward.

This is why I miss EPL on ESPN.
Ian Darke used to do a little segment before each game on the hometown team and its background. I learned so much from that when I first started watching soccer.
Miss me some Darke and Macca calling games.
EDIT: If you're Jewish support Tottenham. If you have a weird thing for Michael Jackson support Fulham.

Are you a winner....if so pick Real Madrid.
If not...put these in a hat Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, ManU, MancC, Liverpool and pick one at random.
Sorry boys had to do it.

OP, you need to pick one of the 24 #blessed clubs plying their trade in tGOATpionship. You might want to avoid the proverbial yo-yo clubs such as Norwich and Newcastle though. You seem like an Ipswich kind of guy, or perhaps you're a seagull from Brighton.

I can't say that I've truly "picked" a club but there's two teams that I find myself leaning more towards than others:
Premier League...AFC Bournemouth. If you like Cinderella stories, this is the team for you. A few years ago, this team was in the lowest leagues and about to go under. In Eddie Howe, they have a young manager that plays a style that's fun to watch and has been incredibly successful. I also enjoy the fact that they play in one of the world's top leagues in Dean Court, a stadium that is below 12,000 capacity.
Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund. Fanatical fan support. My bucket list includes seeing a match one day at Westfalenstadion.

Inter is a shitshow right now, just so you know.

All BS aside these probably are some of the more fun games to watch most of the time.

Most people have a preference in every league, though most won't say they are fans of or follow that team.
I feel like Barcelona is a good team to follow for someone new, or a good starting point at the least. Exciting to watch, rich as frick so they buy a lot of established guys but also develop talent well too.
Most clubs either buy their whole team, or develop the young guys well (and usually eventually lose them to the rich clubs). Barca is the best of both worlds.

This. I have some low level fandom for a few teams, but really I love not having a real rooting interest when I'm watching. I just root for good matches and high quality play.

True. As in I always root for Bournemouth to do well.
But what's even more fun... pick a couple of teams to HATE. That'll really keep you interested.
