Matt Canada's passing offenses have been absolutely terrible.

His passing offenses have historically been quite atrocious, and statistically, his offenses overall appear to be remarkably average.
I'm not sure where this board's love affair with Canada came from, but I'm not a fan. For the past 5 years, he hasn't fielded an offense that ranked in the top 40 for total offense, nor has he fielded a passing offense that ranked higher than 70th.
Review the following statistics and tell me what warrants making this guy the highest paid offensive coordinator in the country.
2012 – OC/QB coach at Wisconsin
Total offense - 65th – 393 yds/game
Passing offense – 108th – 156.9 yds/game
Rushing offense – 11th – 236.4 yds/game
Scoring offense – 59th – 29.6 pts/game
2013 – 2015 – OC/QB coach at NC State
2013
Total offense – 72nd – 404 yds/game
Passing offense – 71st – 240.8 yds/game
Rushing offense – 76th – 162.7 yds/game
Scoring offense – 99th – 22.8 yds/game
2014
Total offense – 60th – 409 yds/game
Passing offense – 80th – 204 yds/game
Rushing offense – 37th – 204.5 yds/game
Scoring offense – 57th – 30.2 pts/game
2015
Total offense – 57th – 413 yds/game
Passing offense – 70th – 210.8 yds/game
Rushing offense – 31st – 202.1 yds/game
Scoring offense – 42nd – 33.2 pts/game
2016 – OC/QB coach at Pittsburgh
Total offense – 42nd – 448 yds/game
Passing offense – 80th – 217.8 yds/game
Rushing offense – 25th – 229.8 yds/game
Scoring offense – 10th – 42.3 pts/game
Edit - More in depth passing numbers...
Completion percentage under Canada -
2012 - 77th (58.4%)
2013 - 71st (58.5%)
2014 - 63rd (58.8%)
2015 - 53rd (59.6%)
2016 - 66th (58.6%)
Passing efficiency under Canada -
2012 - 61st (134.71)
2013 - 92nd (119.24)
2014 - 50th (134.90)
2015 - 70th (128.37)
2016 - 11th (158.07)

Here comes the Canada riders...

Well that's a huge improvement over Cam Cameron's passing offenses.

That would be a concern to me but I do like what I see from Pitts offense this year and I like what he does in the running game
Posted on 12/11/16 at 11:39 pm to Cs
And most want him over helfrich lmao

I posted this in a thread last week and got attacked by 2 posters who pretend like they've been on the Canada train.
Lsu offense under cam was ranked higher a couple of those years

All that offense this year with the recruiting mecca that is the Pittsburgh Pirates pipeline? Not exactly a team full of 4-5* talent up there. Yet still a very capable offense...

This is why we are waiting on Kiffin.
He is the better candidate.

So his offenses have been ranked 59th in the country in total offense?
But he dropped over 70 in a game this year, so he has to be the guy

Lies, white lies and ...
Not a Canada rider, but let's get some perspective. So far this season -
Passing Offense Through games of December 10, 2016
Rank Team YPG
1 Texas Tech 463.0
2 Washington St. 370.8
3 Louisiana Tech 359.8
4 California 358.8
5 Western Ky. 336.8
6 East Carolina 334.7
7 Clemson 332.6
8 Toledo 329.1
9 Oklahoma St. 322.8
10 Syracuse 321.3
Rushing Offense Through games of December 10, 2016
Rank Team YPG
1 New Mexico 360.9
2 Army West Point 327.8
3 Air Force 322.8
4 Navy 310.9
5 South Fla. 291.8
6 Auburn 278.5
7 San Diego St. 273.3
8 Tulsa 261.8
9 Ohio St. 258.3
10 Georgia Tech 257.4
Outside of Clemson and Ohio State, not exactly murderer's row. What attracts the eye to Canada's stats is the annual balance in production. That and this year's Top Ten scoring.
In his first year. At Pittsburgh.

LOL at using passing yardage to determine how good a passing attack is.
Pitt's starting QB currently has a passer rating north of 161, which is 9th best in the country and 3rd best among power 5 QBs.
Isn't that what we want? A power run game aided by an efficient passing game that can pick up yards in chunks? Peterman averages 9.0 YPA, which is 10th in the country.

Why do always run to the "improvement" argument. Thats a low standard. Do you want to simply improve, or be the best?

Ugh. I never want LSU to hire a coach that we have to give the "talent curve" to justify hiring them.

He pitches the ball fwd a lot (fwd laterals) which is technically a pass. It pads his completion ratio. See my notes here

Glad you weren't around when we hired Saban.
