Because:
1. Inflatables
2. Star Shower Laser Lights
Voila, instant X-Mas! No effort required!

The younger generation was used to their parents doing all the decorating and now the lazy fricks either don't know how or just too lazy to do it themselves.

The only reason I celebrate Christmas is because it makes my mom happy. Otherwise, I could not GAF about it.

Me and my wife are the youngest in our neighborhood and I'm the only one that put up lights. Your generalization is dumb.

A lot of people in Ohio decorate with Christmas lights. Must be a northern thing.....like jerseys. We aren't boring like southerns. My house looks good

I'm old....putting up christmas lights sucks. We don't even put up a pagan ritual tree.
Posted on 12/7/16 at 5:36 pm to LildripDraws
People with the means to do it don't have time, can't escape work anymore
Posted on 12/7/16 at 5:39 pm to Cocotheape
Because my house is too far in the woods for you to see it from the highway.

Home ownership is down. A lot of people are barely scraping by since wages have stagnated over 2 decades.
The same homes who always had them don't put them up anymore. Majority of Americans have Christmas lights stored in their attic

I notice way more Christmas lights (and holiday decorations in general) in my old neighborhood these days than I did in years past. Maybe you live in a sucky neighborhood
My neighborhood would kick your arse. I'm talking about all over not my neighborhood

I hate putting up Christmas lights and I find no joy at looking at them
Posted on 12/7/16 at 5:57 pm to LildripDraws
Christmas lights are too much work. Im on the $30 led displays from Walgreens.
Posted on 12/7/16 at 5:59 pm to LildripDraws
I put up lights to prove I can afford electricity.

Hanging lights helps propagate the oppressive white male patriarchal tradition that is christmas.
Another reason why the 90's were great

Rich neighborhoods have them stil in full force
(You can see them if the gates aren't locked)
We keep our gates open until 7:30 on Tuesdays and Thursday for people to drive through and look.
No cameras or outside food and drink allowed. No baggy pants, blue tooth headsets, hooptie wagons, taco wagons or truck nuts.

What is there to hate about Christmas lights?????? It's not even close to what it was back in the 70's and 80's.... but I believe people just don't care about it as much as back then.... AND yes . .This generation is lazy when it comes to something they don't have to do.
In the sarly 80's we lived in Monticello and that was the place to go in BR to look at lights. Hell there were people parked on the medians so they coukd get out and look at the houses. The line to get in and out of the subdivision was insane.
I now live in Covington and gotta say that my neighborhood seems go be all about lights. Its pretty awesome bc when I bought my first house in BR, there werent alot of people putting up lights and I just couldnt understand why. We make it a big famiky project and the kids really like it too.
