Ben McDonald if you want to go that route

ETA: But both these players won SEC titles and made it to Omaha. I wouldnt consider either wasted

Technically, he was on the 2003 championship team.

The answer to this question is easily basketball. No reason they shouldn't have at least one national championship from the late '80s-early '90s.

None of these are individual sports, so this is always a terrible question.

It only makes sense with golf, tennis, bowling, track & field, etc.

It is much better to look at greatest collection of talent without a championship and that would have to be the 2016 football team.

The 2011 team won an SEC Championship, at least, which is a pretty big deal.

Shaq, Chris Jackson AND Stanley Roberts on the same team. Just unbelieveable Dale couldn't even win the SEC.

Didn't they also have Mo Williamson and Vernel Singleton on that team?

That team was so damn talented.

There is a reason LSU didn't win the 1987 National Championship, and Joey Belle was that reason. If he wouldn't have forced Skip to kick him off the team late in the 1987 season, LSU would have won the title that year.

Perhaps the same could be said for Tyrann Mathieu as well, although his is more speculative on if he could have pushed LSU over the top in 2012.

Did Bob Petit win a sec championship? I don't think so.

If you are too young to remember Petit, check out his NBA bio. A top 50 All Time.
