Loyola - liberal arts
Dillard - is that even a school?
Xavier - pharmacy and blacks
UNO - kids w/o enough money to go elsewhere and people going back to college later in life
SLU - rednecks
Nicholls - offshore services
Southern - volod, blacks, and couldn't get into LSU law
ULL - soon to be unemployed petroleum engineers and couldn't get into LSU
LaTech - church

The rest are too far away for me to have an opinion on

This is such a myth

If you can't make it into LSU you are probably not finishing college anywhere

Also, LSU's ACT requirement isn't much higher than any of the other state schools.

Definitely true. I know that was the case for each of us, and there was a high percentage of late 20's/early 30's that I took classes with. Common theme was NOLA guys that:
1) Went to LSU out of HS
2) fricked around
3) dropped out with shite grades
4) worked for a while
5) got tired of a shite job and went to UNO, staying close to home

Maybe on the unemployed Petroleums but on the other part

LSU Freshman admission
quote:

Freshman Automatic Admission Requirements GPA: 3.0 academic GPA based on Required High School Courses Test Score Requirement (ACT, New SAT, or Old SAT): ACT: 22 composite score, with at least 19 math subscore 18 English subscore

UL Lafayette admissions
quote:

In-State Freshman Guaranteed Admission Criteria If you are an in-state student applying for freshman admission, you must meet ONE of the following requirements for admission: Have a core grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale OR 2. Have an ACT composite score of 23, 1050 SAT Critical Reading+Math (CR+M)[earned prior to March 2016], or 1130 SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing+Math (ERW+M) [beginning March 2016]

Higher ACT requirements at ULL though lower GPA requirement, so kind of a wash.

When I started at LSU(1980) all state funded schools were required to accept any in state applicant. That is one of the reasons the schools in this state are so far behind, they have a sort of hole to dig out of. When the laws changed, you saw a lot of resources previously dedicated to remediation available for other things. I did finish at USL, a purely economic decision based on certain life choices I made. LSU will always be my first love. My son will be starting there this fall.

this is being charitable. It's a safe space for socially maladjusted rich kids who couldn't get into Tulane. Good music program though.
