Are there truly any areas in BR/NOLA that you wouldn't walk alone at night

We hear about bad neighborhoods and yes they exist but are there really any areas you truly would avoid and stay away from?
Yes they exist but it's not like there are sketchy types there with nothing better to do than rob or attack random passerby who look like they stepped in the wrong neighborhood. It just means the area is more likely than average to consist of criminals and crime.

well i avoid BR if I can. But yeah, there are definitely areas I avoid in NOLA. My inlaws live in the marigny, and the bywater and st claude have some sketchy arse parts to them.

Gus Young AVE, Plank road, chippawa st., Prescott, Hell anyplace north of Fla. Blvd. On the south end I would stay away from all the "President" streets between downtown and campus

Absolutely dude and I have previously lived in war zones.
It's not a matter of balls it's
Am I a local here and people know me? Does that information increase odds of safety? Do I look worthy of approach? Am I armed? Do I feel like defending myself tonight? Do I gain anything by being here that I can do without?

I used to live in NOLA East. You're goddamn right there were places I wouldn't go at night. When you're informed white people do not fare well in an area, I'd avoid it.

I was there late at night a few weeks ago. Its definitely sketchy but there's usually a lot of hipsters in the area so its not as bad as other places.

Don't know about NOLA, but there are places in West Birmingham that are as dangerous as Somalia. Not only will you be killed, but your remains won't be found.

I can't find the article but I was really hoping other OTers remembered the incident it as it was so far fetched it made the city look horrible that only two visits had that occur.

You're so full of shite.
ETA: On topic, yes OP, there are places in those two cities (and many others) that you should actively avoid late at night by yourself.

Hell, yeah there are!
BR is full of them. Outside of downtown, everything north of Florida a bad idea, as well as the area between government and Florida between I-110 and S. Eugene. Also, the area bordered by south blvd, nicholson, park, and Aster is probably not the best place to be walking around alone after dark. I also wouldn't walk around Valley Park or spend too much time around the IHOP on college late at night.
New Orleans has too many unsafe areas to list.

I'm a 5'2" white woman. What do you think?
Now I do drive through sketchy areas during the day, but I would probably take different routes at night.

Dude, are you serious? There are parts of BR that you definitely shouldn't be walking around in the day, let alone at night. You can get in a lot of trouble in parts, namely around plank road. It would be a horrible idea to walk around there. Even highland road north of LSU is bad.
