Why do Aethist Celebrate XMAS

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and gift giving symbolizes the gifts that were brought to him from the wise men (which has been commercialized to the extreme). So if you don't believe that he exists why participate? Not trying to start a fight but it seems hypocritical to me.

same reason Jews gladly accept Christmas bonuses and paid Christmas holidays? saw that a lot when I lived in S FL, they take offense to you celebrating the season, but don't mind enjoying the perks

Because it gives us a chance to spend time with family and friends that we don't see very often? We don't celebrate it in the same sense as Christians do. It's not a religious holiday for us.

as an atheist. I do it b.c its almost impossible to not participate. I used to fight it, but I have given up on that. its too much work, and pisses people off.

My wife and I are not Atheists, but there are Christian traditions that she'll always question. I look at celebrating many of them not so much as an act of faith, but as part of my culture.
So, if you view Christmas from a secular sense, it is very much a part of American culture. It's why a lot of non-Christian immigrants to the US have begun adopting some semblance of Christmas as to assimilate into American society.
