I guess it boils down to is a one word question. Why?

Florida State is a prominent program that can financially match anything LSU offers. You may disagree with this, but it's true.

Recruiting is strong at both programs.

His path to ACC and national championships is SIGNIFICANTLY easier at Florida State. All things equal, who would CHOOSE to go head to head with the GOAT coach every year knowing that just that single loss would keep his seat warm.

Other than the rhetoric of "Jimbo is an LSU man", what are the logical reasons for him going to LSU?

He wants to make Saban his bitch and he could own the state of LA.. not to mention his check would look like a racecar doing doughnuts on the highway

He may want to coach in the SEC again. He put a bow on his time at FSU with a title. If he wants to move on, he can do so knowing he conquered that challenge.

Also, it wouldn't shock me if the man wanted a fresh start after all the crap he went through last year. All of the Winston stuff blew up. He got divorced. The LSU rumors late last year just added to that.

With the money, recruiting and the prestige being pretty equal today, it wouldn't shock me if things like these make a big difference in such a decision.

It's been argued that we're more willing to pay top dollar for our assistant coaches. But, if Jimbo comes here, I think it will be due to a combination of wanting a fresh start and the fact that he really did seem to appreciate his time here.

ETA: It's also possible he wants the challenge of facing the best on a regular basis.

Why do you think you have Pruitt as your DC?

Because FSU would not pay him.

That's why LSU we not only pay head coach but we make sure assistant coaches get paid too.

Some people welcome the challenge of beating the best. Guess you ain't one of them. Maybe he hates that short bastard in crimson and wants to knock his arse a peg or two down, maybe he thinks that he's the best in the nation and Saban just has no real competition. Who knows?

I think the underlying issue is here, many bama fans don't want Herman or Jimbo at LSU. You all had a boner on the idea that O was going to be hired at LSU last week.

To answer your question, better recruiting base with an entire NFL talent Rich state at your disposal, and the 3rd largest city 4 hours away. Resources , assets, and facilities are superior at LSU. Hope that helps answers some of your questions.

The ACC seems more competitive here of late

The SEC is not what it use to be at the moment.. no in terms of complete teams.

The ACC most of the season had two top 5 teams not named FSU..how is it any easier.. especially with the playoffs..

Why not knock off Alabama in the regular season any ways? Plus you can afford a loss, and sometimes even two in the SEC.. but not the ACC.

That's the bottom line. And that encompasses job security.

FSU doesn't pay their assistant coaches as much as LSU does. I believe LSU had the highest paid assistant coaches in college under Les Miles. Jimbo lost his D coordinator after they won the NC due to FSU not paying him enough. At LSU, Jimbo wouldn't have to worry about not getting or keeping the assistants he wants due to money. Also, Jimbo will get paid.

Florida is a great state for recruiting, but there is no in-state competition in Louisiana at LSU and Louisiana has the most players per capita in the NFL. That's a big selling point for anyone that there is no in-state competition for recruiting. It was for Saban when he took the LSU job.

LSU gets a ton of donations to its athletic department and is in better shape than FSU when it comes to facilities and money needed to do things to keep up in that area.

Also, there is the prestige of coaching in the SEC and the challenge of winning in what is perceived to be the best conference. Also, coaching in Tiger Stadium is a nice perk and coaches all seem to love it when they get a job here.

You know some coaches aren't scared of playing the best right? They're competitive people it's what they do.

Also if you want to win a NC you're going to have to play the best in the SEC eventually anyway. Why not be apart of what's turned into one of the greatest yearly games in college football.

Maybe he just wants to come back here, because he wants to. Maybe it's a change. Maybe a new challenge.

Sometimes y'all look so damn far into the roots that the blades cut your damn eyes. Not everything has to be some deep rooted reason.

Little competition for in state recruits
Per capita, Louisiana is loaded with talent
More $
More $ for assistant coaches
Being in the SEC isn't easier, but it is where true competitors want to be
He is already familiar with the program, state, and local community

-LSU is his dream job, has been since 2003
-Divorce has him needing a change of scenery
-A few more resources at LSU (better pay for assistants, recruiting, etc)

as much as no one here wants to admit it... The top level of the ACC has closed the gap on the top of the SEC. A decent coach at LSU this year could/would have lost only to Bama and be gearing up for a playoff berth.

Good question OP. Some say that FSU is not willing to match money with LSU. They still trail LSU in assistant pay and facilities. Fishers "personal" life might make BR a better fit. I've said before, I don't think fisher is the right hire.
