The Astros as expected did not extend qualifying offers to any of their free agents.
Thank the Lord

So Kendrys Morales is a free agent and the Royals didn't offer him a QO. I wonder if he's a fit for us...he mostly DHs, plays some 1st base and has played a smattering of right field.
2016: .263/.327 24 doubles 30HR 93RBI
2015: .290/.362 41 doubles 22HR 106RBI
He'll be 34 during next season. His market is probably limited to AL clubs. Given the weak market, he might get over paid. And I'm not sure what happens to some other guys position wise if we did sign him....Yuli, Gattis, Bregman.

Altuve named an AL MVP finalist along with Mookie Betts and Mike Trout. It'll probably go Betts, Trout, Altuve but at least he was named finalist.

Gattis @ C
Morales DH
Houston desperately needs a 1B. Thanks Capt. Obvious, I know.
I'm not sure where they can find that because I just don't think they're going to dish out the money to pay Encarnacion. I hope they do, but after paying Gurriel and needing pitching, it may not be in the budget. That and signing Baby Gurriel (possibly)

Put Gurriel at 1b, Bregman at 3B, Fisher in LF and sign another OF for less than you would pay Encarnacion. Jon Jay or Angel Pagan?

I'm a big fan of signing Jay. In fact, Reddick and Jay could be a good pair of signings to add lefty OF bats.
As for 1B, seems like that's where Gurriel will play. The question becomes, do you let Reed/White/etc. fight it out for DH or go big on another FA (Beltran would be a wise short-term buy, for example)?

I would love to get Beltran on a one year deal as a full time DH

Gattis probably doesn't hold up at C over a full season. That's why the Braves moved him to LF. So it creates a bit of a log jam at DH, 1B, 3B. Does Yuli play 1st? LF? 3rd? Bregman to LF? How do we balance Gattis between DH and C?
I kind of want Morales (depending on the price) but I have no idea where he plays. I just don't know if I want to rely on AJ Reed or Tyler White to figure their shite out. A dismal April cost us the playoffs last year. I don't really want to waste at bats with a rookie hitting .160

Also, I know this happened on Saturday but in case anyone was too focused on college football...

The Astros added hard-throwing left-hander Reymin Guduan to their 40-man roster Saturday. Guduan, who was set to become a Minor League free agent, is the Astros' No. 27 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com.
Guduan, 24, split last season between Triple-A Fresno and Double-A Corpus Christi, posting a 3-3 record with two saves and a 4.18 ERA. The Dominican struck out 63 batters in 56 innings pitched, while allowing just a .235 opponent's batting average. Lefties hit .213 against him in Fresno.
Guduan will come to Major League camp with a shot to make the big league club, considering the Astros need left-handed bullpen help. Control has been an issue throughout his time with the Astros, though. He's walked 199 batters in 253 1/3 pro innings, including 37 free passes last season.

#Astros will pursue Miguel Cabrera or Edwin Encarnacion. Payroll increase is coming. They have only two players signed beyond 2017. @MLB

Miggy would be huge. But I can't see it as a fit for us. Are the Astros gonna pay a 40 year old Miggy $32 million?
He's still owed $212 million at 34 years old. Given the age and monies owed, I'd rather go after EE for about half the cost.
And yeah for what it would take to trade for Cabrera, use that shite on Sale or Archer.
