Went back and counted the "types" of passes called. Broke it down to three categories: Quick pass, Shotgun 3 step, Shotgun play action.
I realize this breakdown has holes since our offense isn't the same philosophy and Kelly is a better QB than Etling, but I wanted to see how Ole Miss scored so much on Bama. Plays of 25+ I called Big Plays.

Quick pass:
7/12 1 No Gain, 1 Pressure

Shotgun 3 Step:
11/20 3 TDs, 1 Sack, 6 Pressures, 2 Big plays, 1 int, 1 throw away, 5 scrambles for positive yards.

Shotgun play action:
9/13 2 TDs, 3 big plays, 2 pressures, 1 Pass Interference

Ole Miss obviously had the most success running the play action from the shotgun. The offensive line only allowed 2 pressures and no sacks. Also had 2 TDs and 3 big plays.

One note is that the shotgun play action is a lot faster than the play actions we call. I know that's obvious, but if we can get their linebackers to hesitate and then get the ball out quickly, we can have some success.

Disclaimer: These stats may not be 100% accurate, but they're close enough.

I think we need to do a lot of shot-gun playaction because I'm pretty sure they will run-blitz our pro-style playaction plays. Either that or straight drop back out of center. I don't want another sack fumble like Ole Miss.

Another set of plays they can do are draw plays.

If you turn your back to the Alabama defense you're gonna have a bad time. Protection better be solid on play action.

Agreed. I want to see some pistol formation with 3-4 wideouts. Get as many people out of the box as possible, we can run play action without Danny having to turn his back to the defense(he can just turn to the sideline to hand the ball off, not turn completely around), and it allows Fournette to be deep enough to find holes.

Guice and fournette in the same backfield would be a nice wrinkle.

Well, they arent really "play actions" as they are Run/Pass Options....thats why they appear fast. Ole Miss has been doing this since Freeze got there and it's always pissed Saban off.

So much to the fact that he tried to have this type of offense banned by having the Officials enforce a 3 yard linemen downfield rule.

Basically, they are run plays with a WR tag where the QB has ONE read to see if he can take the WR pre snap, or post snap when reading the odd man out of the blocking scheme.

EX: if you have five linemen in blocking, and they have six in the box, you count number 6 away from the run direction and if he shoots into the run game, you throw right off of him. Slants, hitches, pivots, skinny posts etc.

Its a good offense.

I have a strong feeling you'll see that. Some triple option stuff would be fun.

Motion one or both out to create a mismatch.

We run that run/play option also. Not the same exact plays as Ole Miss, but the same idea is there. Hopefully we do something similar to Ole Miss.

I'd still call it play action when Kelly is acting like he's handing the ball off. In fact, It's an even bigger sell since the O-line is run blocking. The effect is the same as the play action, convincing the defense you're running the ball.

Releasing the TEs to the vacated LB zones will also slow them down and force the Safeties into pass coverage.

This opens up the run game if you can hit those perimeter game routes.

Releasing the TEs

Bama's defense beats these delayed releases by simply holding the receivers. This is a staple of Saban defenses. If there's an eligible receiver anywhere near the line of scrimmage, clutch and hold.

Like the OM game, sneak one as the FB out into the flat and gain a mismatch. We'll need to use them all - RB's, TE's and the three primary WR's need to make plays. No drops, no fumbles....just positive yards.

I would like to see a couple of reverses using Guice and Fournette. Need to run those big Bama heifers around from side to side a few times to wear them out. All they had to do with Miles at the helm was stand there and wait for Fournette to run their way. We need to make them work hard for their tackles. No more easy street.

Also want to see the flea flicker.

Guice, Fournette and Williams in the same formation at the same time would be nicer with Fournette as the motion man making a break right off tackle and get caught up with a LB on a short pass over the middle.

watching the abridged version of the game to see exactly what they did.

Ole Miss uses tons of motion with receivers and Engram to try and misdirect.

I think a big deal will be substitution packages on offense. LSU needs to show one look with the players coming off the sideline then line up in a different formation.

ie: show 2WR, 2TE, 1RB then spread the TEs out in the slots or show 2WR, 1TE, 2RB and come out in a shotgun or ace formation.
