After one game I'm ready to hop aboard the Vucevic Bandwagon

Rebounding is just such a huge need.
Okafor is a bad rebounder
Noel is just an ok rebounder
Monroe is a good rebounder but I fear he'd clog the paint for AD.
Vucevic is like Monroe in his positives and negatives, good at scoring/rebounding/passing and bad at defense, but he can hit the mid range shot and get out of AD's way.
Vucevic also has a career average of 30 MPG, and if you have to give up a protected pick to get him, that's what you want back, a guy you can play 30 MPG. With any luck you can move Ajinca when you trade for him.

how protected of a pick are you talking about? No way i give them a top 7, not in this draft. Maybe top 9-11 protected.

If you're oversized SF 4/54 signing can't contribute more than one rebound on the night in 28 minutes, you're putting too much pressure on whoever comes in next and AD.
TWO MOTHER frickING REBOUNDS from Ajinca/Dante/Asik in 36 minutes. Ok, maybe you're right.

He's under contract on a good deal for 2 more years after this one, but he's definitely out of favor in Orlando.
I would absolutely give up somethingg to get him. If you could pull off a top 12 year 1 and top 3 year 2, that's a homerun. Not sure you can get him for that, and obviously we would need to send out salary.

I don't want to give up a first rounder for a big man. I'm just tired of giving up picks. And I certainly don't want to give up a pick for someone that can't play defense at the 5.
I'd rather try to get one of Olynyk or Zeller from Boston than Vucevic. Orlando wants something good in return. I think Boston could unload one of them strictly for future financial reasons, assuming they think they can get by just fine without one of them.
Defense is more important than a good rebounder. If Asik, and the rest of team were better team defenders, we'd rebound better.
I'd rather Noel than Vucevic.
hell i'd rather if they would have put Diallo in for a few minutes to match Faried's intensity and see what the kid can do. Coudlnt' have been much worse than Ajinca.

I like what corndeaux suggested the other day, top 18 then top 14 then 2 2nds. Basically if we're not a playoff team in the next year they get 2 2nds. I'm not sure if Orlando agrees to that, but that'd be the kind of protection I'd aim for. They can't expect to trade a guy like Vucevic for a top 10 pick when they traded Tobias Harris for expirings.

That would be a 100% done deal to me, but obviously you need to send out 12 mill in salary to make it work, so you're also sending out someone like Reke, unless you can attach the Philly pick as well to dump Omer.
And then you have a massive salary logjam at C.

Good point- would they take reke and his expiring, ajinca, and a future protected first? Say 2018 top 18 protected. I just really think this 2017 draft will be very deep and don't wanna trade away our pick.

Been pushing this for a while, so I 100% agree with you Tiger
I know people love this draft, but this franchise is not taking some 19 year old anyway. They are either gonna find another vet to trade the pick for or draft an upperclassman that goes off this year who won't be better than Vuc for 3-5 more years anyway
Reke and Ajinca, with a top 5 protected pick for Vuc and I am a happy man. Then, go sign and develop a Quincy Ford type, get Jrue back and be a team that can win 50 games next year. Will they ever win a title? Probably not, but there is no realistic path to that anyway

"but there is no realistic path to that anyways"
There is though. Its called the draft. Look at the thunder, spurs, warriors, now the wolves. Its ALL about the draft, especially if you are a small market team and will never be able to lure in a superstar FA, like US. Would you rather be mediocre or worse for the next 15 years or would you rather be really bad for the next 4 years (sixers, wolves) and build the right way in order for long term success?

I think you have to dump Omer on someone like Brooklyn in a separate trade, but I'm not sure how much Orlando wants Tyreke, even with insurance money attached. Bring in a 3rd team, Philly/Denver/Phoenix have the cap space to do it, maybe you can get a 2nd for Tyreke. Send that 2nd and a trade exception to Orlando for a heavily protected 1st that becomes a 2nd if Vucevic doesn't make you a playoff team.

2 of those have won ships, one is backsliding, and one has proven nothing. The Spurs are not a realistic model and the Warriors were lucky as much as smart.

The draft is a crapshoot. As "easily" as you can build your team through the draft and have success you can have failure. JMO

hell i could even add the cavs since they technically drafted lebron too even though he came back. I understand OKC hasn't won, but have they not been competing over the past 6-7 years? They are always in the playoffs. Durant, Westbrook, harden, jeff green, reggie jackson, ibaka, adams were all drafted by OKC. They didn't make any sort of big FA signing.
New Orleans has NEVER had such a signing in the offseason, hell or even a trade, so why would you want to continue in the same path we have always been on?

I very much want Vucevic on this team. He is as good of a fit next to AD out there. Not a rim protector, for sure, but can spread open the lanes to give AD more chances to attack.
A caveat to this, for me, is to ensure that we get a defensive-minded rim protector either be his backup or to start along side AD for 10-15 MPG. JJ Hickson or Carl Landry come to mind in that regard.

wolves
Wolves got a shot in the arm by trading their superstar for 2 first overall picks (Bennet lol)
We'll see what Dunn turns into, and Lavine still needs a lot of development, but the Wolves have only hit big once (so far) in their recent drafts.
Would have been nice if the Pels could have traded CP3 for Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson.

It only works with a good ownership that has that patience. Give me another owner and I would be advocating for that path. But I promise you, this team isn't taking some 19 yr old in the top 5

Did you mean LaRon Landry, because that would have been closer

That is Diallo's eventual role and Erman has been credited for building an average defense around Olynyk/Sullinger/Zeller because he had good perimeter defenders. He should be able to work similar smoke and mirrors once Jrue gets back.

Exactly. I'm tired of giving up picks look where it got us now. The last 2 times we traded picks for players it failed, why try again? There's also guys in this draft that are high effort, athletic rebounding/defending bigs that we can get middle/late first round. It's time for the FO to realize we aren't competing with anyone, it's time to rebuild

You guys can hope for this all you want and ring your hands when it doesn't happen but they are never going to choose a 19 yr old with upside in the top 10 over an upperclassman or a vet they can get for that pick as long as Benson is alive
