How is it that Florida St is ranked 12th with losses to Louisville (blowout) and a 6-2 North Carolina team; and LSU is ranked 19th with losses to an 11th ranked Wisconsin team and to a 15th ranked Auburn team?

Our one common opponent was Ole Miss and we won that game by more points.

What gives?

Voters dont pay attention to shite. The playoff committee does though, and I would imagine we will be ahead of them in that poll

Our wins so far have been against crap teams. I'm not ready to get much into the poll bitching until we beat a top 20 team

Focus on the games we have to play and how we will win them, the rest will take care itself

FSU started slightly higher in the polls than we did, only thing I can tell.

We got DESTROYED for losing to Wisconsin in week 1.

Dropped like 15 spots in both polls.

FSU loses 63-20 and dropped like 10 spots

You shouldn't be worried about our ranking until the final CFP ranking is released

Yeah it's stupid, but all that matters is the playoff committee polls

Perception doesn't always matter. In football polls-- which is a very subjective ranking of teams-- perception very much matters.

Florida State started out highly ranked as we did. Their loss to Louisville was ugly and dropped them a good 10 spots, which isn't unreasonable. They're still perceived as being reasonably balanced, and their staff is stable (If Jimbo leaves, won't be till after the season.)

LSU was highly ranked to start and there was talk of a revamped offense and a strong case for a title run. Wisconsin exposed the presumed changes to the offense as completely false and the offense looked inept. Auburn reinforced that opinion. The perception on the back end of that game: there's no way this team will win the SEC or SECw, and will be lucky to be over .500 with that offense... It seemed like we picked up where our losing record last November left off.

Another way of restating the difference in perception might be:
*Fl. St is not quite as good as we thought, but is a good team that might have a shot at a BCS bowl.
*LSU is a talented team with a very flawed offense that will possibly get slaughtered again in November and might not finish .500 in the SEC.

Is this opinion right? Who knows... it's an opinion, and opinions like this always have an asterick... which assumes several 'ifs'. The opinions are already shifting since Orgeron took over, and LSU is making up ground in the polls again. I don't think anyone is counting us quite out yet; and there's the sense that LSU might still run the table. But there's a possibility that they'll run out of steam or defenses will figure out the tweaks to LSU's offense as more game tape becomes available. So, it's not unreasonable that the voters are a little hesitant to assume Bebe's Bandits are the real deal just yet.

It's because of timing.

Both of our loses were to unranked teams at the time of the loss.

Why do people give a shite about any of these mid season rankings??

If we win out the rankings will take care of themselves. We are going through a gauntlet schedule that no one else is facing. Playoff committee will respect that.

LSU was penalized heavily because Wisconsin was unranked. They've turned out way better than people thought. The over-penalization of LSU should have been corrected by now since we have more info on Wisc and AU.

Yeah probably LSU should be higher. My only explanation is that both LSU Ls looked real bad at the time and they hit LSU's perception strongly then; they don't any more of course as AU a Wisconsin are good teams.. but voters are too lazy to re asses things now with more info.

Speaking of AU we really need these guys to drop a game at some point. The sooner the better. It’s a hard road but it would suck doing all the work and having to depend on what happens in the Iron Bowl. We’ve been in that situation before and it hasn’t worked.

When we were dropped, the voters saw the same thing we all did, no coaching philosophy change from last year. So it was more how we looked when we lost to Wisky and Auburn. Voters (and I) didn't think we would win many games against the SEC west.

Now that the team is playing better and looking better in their play, LSU has not defeated a team of significance yet.

Beat Bama and everyone in the country will take notice.

I have been looking hard at the rankings as well, some of it really doesn't add up, but I agree with the "just win" sentiment.

Our destiny is literally still within our control. (which I did not think I would be able to say a few short weeks ago).

Doesn't matter right now. Just look at 6-0 Baylor. They haven't played anyone and are ranked #8. I could see them dropping 4/6 of the remaining games

Beat Bama and none of it matters. Beat Bama and we jump in the polls like never seen before.
