looks like herman is off the market to texas. All but done deal is what im reading.
This started from a hack in Denver who also scooped Charlie Strong to LSU. There are some gullible people out there.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Herman jumped at Texas if offered.
Because quite frankly, I don't think he'll ever be officially offered the LSU job. I think Texas' performance, combined with the LSU situation, is putting a squeeze on Texas to make a hasty, irrational decision, without doing all their due diligence.
Basically LSU's opening forced Texas to take a quick and decisive play for Herman. And I don't think anyone considered the possibility that neither Texas nor LSU should be hiring Herman to begin with. Obviously LSU had/has Plenty of time and options (including its Interim coach), wheras UT couldn't risk the possibility of losing Herman to LSU.
Things may change and LSU may certainly be left scrambling in the end, but at the moment LSU is in a Very good and proactive position and Texas is seemingly scrambling and merely re-acting to the circumstances.

Why do people keep falling for this stuff? Does anyone really think that a guy that has the ear of anyone with actual insider knowledge is running to tigerdroppings to leak that info?

Isnt the main points of hiring a search firm for a) vetting purposes and b) to make contact above just a general inquiry to an agent
It's also to create,a degree of separation between the school and the coach/agent.

More specifically, so that there can be direct communication with agents and/or coaches that isn't subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Using the search firm prevents reporters from getting negotiation emails, cell phone records and the like.

If O beats bama and keeps winning with the way he's turned things around and brought so much energy to the program with his recruiting ability and the fact that Aranda and Raymond almost certainly stay it would be a huge mistake not to give him a shot. USC made a huge mistake and they know it. Name chasing will send us to Tennessee status almost certainly imo. We need a ceo with energy and the ability to recruit along with hiring good asst's. Read the article about what Lsu is looking for. It was a good one and O fits several key things they are looking for. He just needs to win. If he does he should get it.

Exactly correct
Furthermore using the search firm allows JA to say he has left no stone unturned in his decision on whom to recommend to the board as HC

Even if he wins out, his overall HC record is still a losing one, including his interim jobs. If you have other candidates with same positives as O but are more proven HCs you have to take them over O.

I agree, but wouldn't you agree many coaches with better resumes have those same qualities.

This is a good idea.
How many schools have hired coaches, only to discover a checkered past after the fact?
I'm pretty sure that Bama would not have hired Mike Price if they'd known more about him.
