LSU players in the 2017 draft

Just reading the board over the last couple of days made me realize how loaded this draft is going to be for LSU. The senior class has 3 elite guys...and a bunch of mid round, late round, & udfa guys. The junior guys potentially leaving early is pretty impressive.
Seniors:
WR - Travin Dural - mid/late round
TE - Colin Jeter - late round/udfa
TE - DeSean Smith - late round/udfa
OL - Ethan Pocic - 2nd/3rd round
OL - Josh Boutte - udfa
PK - Colby Delahoussaye - udfa
DL - Christian LaCouture - mid/late round
DE - Lewis Neal - mid/late round
OLB - Tashawn Bower - late round/udfa
ILB - Kendell Beckwith - 2nd round
ILB - Duke Riley - late round/udfa
CB - Tre'Davious White - 1st round
S - Rickey Jefferson - late round/udfa
S - Dwayne Thomas - udfa
S - Corey Thompson - udfa
Juniors good enough to declare:
RB - Leonard Fournette - 1st round
RB - Darrel Williams - late round/udfa
WR - Malachi Dupre - 2nd/3rd round
WR - D.J. Chark - mid/late round
DL - Davon Godchaux - 2nd/3rd round
S - Jamal Adams - 1st round
The round projections are just my guess as of right now. They will be very different by the time the draft rolls around, so don't take them too seriously.

I dig that list, but just a heads up... Posts on Saints Talk about LSU players usually get destroyed.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I'm aware. I'm expecting some of that, but there are a lot of LSU fans on this board. Some non-LSU fans will probably appreciate it as well. I'm far from a LSU homer and I try to be objective when discussing them.

WR Dupre - 4th/5th
S - Adams - 2nd
DL - LaCouture - UDFA
DL - Godchaux - 4th/5th
RB - Williams - would be foolish to enter draft

Only guy I would really care for is Beckwith. The rest are either not good or not at positions of need worth their draft price.

agree 100%. I REALLY like Colin Jeter as an udfa pickup(the only thing he lacks is top end speed for a TE). LSU under-utilizes him imo.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Duke Riley as an udfa pickup wouldn't be bad either. He could turn into a legit backup & special teams player imo.
I liked Pocic coming into this year, but I've cooled on him recently. I think someone will overpay for him, and I hope it's not the Saints. I think he's projected to be an OG/OT in the NFL, but he got manhandled by Auburn's beast DT while playing center.

Beckwith could climb into the first round.
I expect Lewis Neal to be in that late late 2nd to 4th round range.
If Rickey wasn't injured I would've seen him going in 2nd to 3rd round. He's a playmaker with a high ceiling.
Time will tell.

Everyone of those players will be scratched off the saints board before April

Bama has better players

I would LOVE to see us take Smith or Jeter with a late pick.
I think both are going to have bright futures in the league. We are just seeing their skills now and they are surrounded with elite talent.
Defensively I hope we can snag Tre White but I want a pass rusher (Miles Garrett please God) in the first round.

Beckwith and Adams would be GREAT additions. Those two will have a great NFL career IMO.

I like Adams a lot as well. He's a lot like Vaccaro, except he's better in pass coverage imo. I think he's a top 20 pick, so I doubt we take him with our glaring needs at DE, LB, & OL. I wouldn't complain though.
White is a damn good player too, but I seriously doubt we go CB in the 1st round. Much better chance we go safety imo.

I'd take Tre White or Beckwith if they fell to us in the 2nd. Pocic in the 3rd would be a good get for G/C. I'm torn on Lewis Neal. He's a good player, but not great. I wouldn't mind him late in the draft.
All that being said, I'm all for the best player regardless of school.
Also, wrong board???

Na. Nothing wrong with discussing LSU players that we think would be good additions to the Saints.
If anything, it should alleviate some of the complaining if we don't draft a LSU player(which happens every year on this board). If the position of need & value isn't right, then there shouldn't be any complaining.

I'd also love to get White or Beckwith in the 2nd. Great value. Lewis Neal will probably fall in the draft, b/c he's playing DE in a 3-4 this year...that's why his production is down compared to last year. He's a 4-3 DE. I'd take him if he falls to the late rounds.

Doesn't matter, Saints will draft an Alabama player over Fournette
Posted on 10/24/16 at 8:27 am to LSUholddatTiga
Beckwith, Jamal Adams, Fournette, and Tre White should all go in the first round... the only one who I think has the chance to slide into the second would be white, but that's not a given

Its interesting because ina lot of instances, the saints would be a better team if they targeted guys out of LSU instead of passing on them for guys at similar positions from other schools. Plus you know they would play hard for a team most grew up rooting for

For some reason I thought Arden Key would be eligible to leave after this season; glad it appears LSU will have him for 1 more season.
So you are creating a list of players that other teams will draft so we can have some of the other top players fall to the Saints?
I think Beckwith would be a great 2nd rounder for the Saints.
Pocic could be a good pick-up in the 3rd or 4th.
Not sure how Godchaux will transition to the NFL, would prefer to see him stay around 1 more year, but I think he has the potential to be another great LSU D-lineman.

Listen I hear what you are saying but hindsight is 20/20. Most of the time the Saints have not blatantly passed on an LSU player that was rated very highly over whoever they chose. Most of these LSU guys are kind of coming out of nowhere in the NFL like OBJ, who wasn't even the highest rated WR in his class pre-draft.
I don't think the Saints intentionally avoid LSU players. I think that they just give them their honest grades and they are just never in the position to take one whenever they fit the grade given. My biggest beef on this board is that typically our (LSU) fans overrate our players and believe they are graded higher than real draftniks have them, so it gives the perception that the Saints are passing on them when that isn't really the case.
