I thought this was a fricking joke, so I looked it up, and realized this is absolutely a thing. People trying to redeem the villain, saying he was the first victim, is fricking insane. Villains almost always start as victims, but they don't seek justice, they seek vengeance, and they become blood hungry and insatiable. Bad guys in good shows/movies are rarely pure evil, they need to be humanized to make them feel real. But just bc they are humanized doesn't make them victims after committing their crimes

I don't really appreciate the character plot of Negan. Why would his "followers" sit there and back him up doing that stuff. The Governor made sense, he tricked most of the people in Woodbury. When he went over the line several of his people did try to stop him. Also Rick/etc..killed several of Negan's people after learning what he was.

Just open a history book. Nazi Germany is the most obvious example of this. It happens. And frequently.

The thing is, Rick had really lost his way. In his mind, he was Negan. Their group were the badass, battle tested warriors who would just kill anyone who they deemed "needing to die." Rick even said to Darryl when they first got to Alexandria, "if we have to, we'll just take this place from them." Not an exact quote, but that was his mindset. His attitude towards the Saviors ("do you want this to be your last day on earth?") wasn't very different than Negan's toward him, except that Rick actually wanted to murder every single one of them.
Propping up Rick in his current state as the moral compass of the show is just as bad as justifying Negan's way.

Negan is awesome but he is one dimension right now. I'd like to see another side of him otherwise I'll get burnt out on him.

Negan is the good guy in this show.

Rick and Negan really aren't any different from one another. They are both Alpha as frick. Negan is perhaps just a bit more sadistic in his methods.
Rick would not have killed the same way as Negan, but he would have done it nonetheless.
It's about the perception of who has the upper hand. The upper hand is the power.

Definitely a little Batman-Joker going on with these two.
I assume we will get significant backstory on Negan and the Saviors.

Why do people work for drug lords and crime bosses? Because it's the best way to monetize their individual skill set. In a world where there isn't much economic activity other than scavenging and stealing, working for someone like Negan is probably one of the better jobs available.

Want to give him more than two episodes?

I agree with that. You could see it last season in how cocky he had gotten. His group had survived numerous close calls and he felt invincible.
He went on an offensive to try and be the hero by eliminating what he thought was small group of bullies.
And then he found out he was a much smaller dog in the yard than he ever could have imagined.

It was one fricking episode
You want him bashing brains with a bat in one scene and then cuddling with kittens while eating ice cream the next??

No sane, adjusted person should be "Team Negan."
Seriously. That episode's greatest value was as a profiling tool. Keep an eye on all of the adult-adolescents who are waving the Negan flag and posting GIF's of _______'s eye popping out. They're the guys with cat skeletons in their backyard. Those guys who wonder why the age of consent can't be lowered to thirteen.

Rick's group ::
Killed 10-15 of Negan's men
Destroyed a camp
Stole a fuel shipment
Stole a food shipment
Negan's men already know how much of an a-hole he is and how hard he is to please, yet on top of it, they all lost friends, or food or fuel so they have skin in the game.
Your boss says he is going to kill one of them to make a point. Do you say "No, in this world of zombies and lawlessness killing someone with a bat is just too brutal I stand with the other guys" or do you say "frick those murdering thieves, they get what they deserve"?
