What is the meaning of this non-Al Azar Grotto haunted house nonsense?
Posted on 10/15/16 at 11:09 am to Marfa
Went to the House of Shock last night. Very Satanic and not very scary. I normally don't do Haunted Houses but I was not very impressed with it last night especially for 25 dollars a person.

I like Mortuary better, 13th Gate in BR is the best IMO. I think house of Shock is great if your best ideal of scary movies are those directed by Rob Zombie, and you are somewhat sympathetic to the teachings of LeVey.
I miss the old haunted houses, when there were like ten and you could afford to go to 3-4 a night and you never waited longer than 30 minutes to an hour to get in. Chinchuba, Sheriff Foti's, Lakeside, one in Kenner, one in Elmwood and a few in neighborhoods. House of Shock started in a back yard.
It's just too much now and you have to wait nearly two hours to get in.

Yea. We waited 2 hours to go in for a 20 minute walk through the haunted house.

I went to House of Shock two years ago and it was beyond terrible. It's new owenership that saved it from closing down, and they shouldn't have bothered.
Never been to Mortuary but have heard good things.
For my money and time, I'd buy a line skip pass and go to 13th Gate. It truly is a first rate haunted house and one of the best in the nation. I've been to haunted houses all over the USA, and very few impress me with their attention to detail and makeup/actors. 13th Gate last year was great, and I look forward to going this year.
The line-skip pass is more expensive but it comes down to how much you value time. An extra $20 to prevent waiting 2-3 hours to me is worth it.

You're dead on about that. I spent $70 for my girlfriend and I to go to one in San Antonio last week. It opened at 7:00 and we got there at 7:15. Still waited over an hour in a line that wasn't even long yet. The house just wasn't good. Not scary and was so dark we couldn't see the attention to detail on the sets.
I consult HauntWorld's website and pick a house to visit from there. 13th Gate is #3 in the nation this year. Netherworld, a favorite of mine in Atlanta, is #2.

I haven't been to the other ones mentioned, but 13th gate is incredibly impressive. The rooms are like true movie sets. Like Disney shite

Is this a spook house thread?

Wow, I can't believe 13th gate is #3. That haunted house is average at best. The graphics there are pretty good, but that's about it. House of Shock like others have aluded is nothing, but satanic crap. Mortuary is like going to a haunted house in Disney. Too bad there aren't any good ones in LA. You would think a company could design a bad arse haunted house in the french quarter or uptown.

Haunted Houses are catered toward kids. I would hope as an adult these wouldnt "scare" you

There used to be a haunted house in an old hotel on St. Charles early 2000's. It was called a "psychological" haunted house and was pretty awesome. Each hotel room had a theme... One was a businessman suicide, one had a cracked out prostitute that kept hitting on everyone in the group, men and women alike. She had track marks and bruises and totally portrayed an out of it hooker. There was a serial killers room in process of making a skin suit, a crazy butcher in the hotel kitchen, a weird maze, killer clown etc. It ended in the hotel bar on the first floor where everyone got a drink ticket with price of admission.
It was a pretty cool, unique concept.

Sounds like that haunted house that those religious nuts put on.

13th gate gets a lot of hype and praise but we've got a group that's been going the last three or so years in a row and it needs some updating. Lot of the same features as the year before with not much new stuff each year. I can say it's definitely more "fun" than truly scary, far from horrifying for sure. Go with a group, have a drink before, have a good time.

I was dragged to the mortuary this year. It sucked and it's more expensive than house of shock
