He's currently a HC, isn't he?

Agreed. Let's let it play out, but you have to feel LSU must have missed on several other coaches if O ends up as HC.
So, while LSU may be OK with O at the wheel, i think you could still argue that the administration did a less than stellar job in the coaching search, if that's how it plays out.
I don't think O can be judged alone on this one partial season. Even if he wins out or only loses one, why does he get put above a Herman or Fisher hire? His overall resume as HC is too concerning for me to put him over those two during this coaching search.

He is a D-line coach that's holding the title of interim HC until a suitable replacement can be hired.
If you think he is suitable then you might as well look at other assistants that actually put together gameplans.

Did he get a phone call?
Larry F and Taggard must have press end instead of send. Send is THE RIGHT FREAKING BUTTON.

. If Coach O can win over the right people (and he's got the right personality/accent to do so), Joe Alleva will be irrelevant in the hiring process.
He's already won over the right people.
What is Orgeron's greatest strength? Recruiting. And what makes him a great recruiter?
- Building a rapport with others.
- Selling the school and the program.
Only now, he's selling his candidacy. And I'm worried that at the end of the day, the win/loss ratio won't ultimately matter - because he'll already have the job locked up.
As long as we look "improved", the job is unfortunately going to be given to him.

If he loses to OM and Bama, both at home and probably at night... What exactly will he have done to be an upgrade over Miles? If the administration is as reactionary as a lot of our fanbase, we are fricked.

~Remind the fans you're not Les Miles
~Cozy up to the boosters
~Win over F. King and Gov. Honor Code by being several million dollars cheaper than a Herman or Jimbo
~Let all those people put the pressure on Alleva to hire you.

~Become LSU's permanent head coach.

He's a great politician. I have no doubt half this state would vote for him if he ran for senate tomorrow

After the political bullshite last year, if they hire O- essentially because he's cajun- the reversion to the pre 2000 LSU will be all but complete. Would be terrible. Orgeron should only get the job if he wins out and Herman/Fisher say no.

Pretty much. The more he works the administration, the more latitude he gets with the quality of the product on the field.
King will eventually cave, especially when they realize that they could save $2.5+ million per year by giving him the job.

If king did this to save money, miles would still be employed
The boosters are running this show. They don't care about price tags

This makes absolutely no sense because the University does not pay millions for the coach. They paid Miles I think 400 or 500 thousand. The rest of the money does not come from the school.

Hire a third party firm to act as a fresh pair of eyes to make an evaluation on this coaching search. This is why he's a great recruiter, he knows how to play to emotions. This is too important a hire to be swayed by emotion. If this is accurate that he's "pressing buttons" then we are in trouble.
If you're evaluating a potential hire on his merits, Orgeron doesn't come close to measuring up. Nothing against him. He's a boon to any staff he's on. But geez, you don't take a short order cook and give him his own restaurant to run. His extent of expertise is running bag drills with fat guys. This isn't difficult.

that's not true. We should be favored for the remainder of games on our schedule outside of Bama.
Even if he finishes with 1 loss that does not mean he's earned this job. He'll have taken an extremely talented group of guys and got them to beat teams they're better than.
This won't tell us he's capable of maintaining the program long term. There's way more risk than reward if you promote O.

Money is no object, but this administration will take the path of least resistance.
They'll look at the recruiting class, the coaches we have in place, the fact that apparently everyone just loves Coach O, and will take the easy way out by giving him the job.
Saving a few million per year is just the cherry on top.

Why in the hell do people think O can go toe-to-toe with X's & O's and overall strategy/adjustments against the best coaches in the SEC?
Oh but he's from Louisiana and everyone loves him and he talks like he dropped out in 2nd grade. Wonderful.
