Wow, his mom was his boy scout leader, now that's commitment.

Eagle Scouts have to be in the top 1% range of high-achievers/quality people, in my experience.
I would guess what ever minuscule amount of exceptions could be found would only prove that rule.

You aren't kidding, I couldn't believe how many successful people I have met in my career who were Eagle Scouts.

There's a lot of ridiculing that goes on regarding scouting, and its real easy to do so, but there is a lot of value in it. It takes a lot of work to achieve what he has done, especially while remaining that seriously and successfully involved in athletics as that takes up a lot of time and very often the two conflict.
I put scouting in the same boat with making good grades in school. At the time, it isn't always the cool thing to do, but the value later on in life is immeasurable.
(No, I am not an Eagle Scout. I dropped out of scouting after a couple years due to time conflicts with athletics. I know several Eagle Scouts, however, and every one of them is very successful and respectable.)

I regret not sticking with Scouts past the first couple of years. Shame it gets a bad reputation for being nerdy.

Yeah the reputation sucks but I think the biggest issue is the time commitment like others have stated. I was in Cub Scouts and what not, but sticking with that while playing multiple sports becomes pretty difficult for most parents more so than the kids.
The few Eagle Scouts I recall from high school were only children, so my anecdotal experience supports the time issue for parents.

Yeah, my boys had the same thoughts and I told them pay attention, nerds run the world. Look at Bill Gates I told them, someday you'll work for a nerd. My boys both made Eagle and are attending Air Force Academy now (I think they get an extra 10 points on their application if you are an Eagle).

Congrats. I'd imagine keeping both of them in scouts helped things as efficient as possible for you. As the oldest boy in my family, when I bailed from scouts it pretty much sealed the fate of my younger brothers.

I am an eagle scout. I know 7 other eagle scouts and all are productive members of society. It really teaches lasting life lessons that translate into success.
My scout leader's boys were in scouts so there was never that "creepy scout leader" threat in my troop.

Both my brother and I are Eagle Scouts. Never regretted a minute of it. I did keep it on the DL as it wasn't the coolest thing from a popularity standpoint. Now when I look back on it, it was one of the cooler things I did in my life.
Definitely have life skills as a result and am a productive member of society. I've got 2 boys now and am hoping I can pass on some of the things I learned as well as teach them to see the value. My dad wasn't an Eagle Scout but he knew the value and really pushed my brother and I to succeed. He was our troop leader for several years and some of the best times of my life were with him on scouting trips. Hope I can do half of that for my kids.
