Can we bypass LSU and the SEC office and file a class action if we are forced to play 11/19?

The only option I see is South Alabama suing for more than their buyout. Suing for losses in exposure, recruiting, and opportunity for their players.

We in turn file those damages against UF for unnecessarily forcing this scenario

i guess if you could find enough idiots, you could file a class action. force majeure would most likely apply in a court of law and you would be laughed out out of the courtroom.

I think a lawsuit is reasonable but I don't see grounds for a class action. They should forfeit if the cocktail party isn't moved and if it takes a lawsuit to force the forfeit than so be it.

It wouldn't be a class action though.

Also, frick 11/19. Only way this game is played is if cocktail party is moved.

The short answer is no.

There are several complications to this potential lawsuit.

At the present time the only LSU fans that could claim a loss would be those who didn't receive a full refund from the cancellation of travel arrangements. Even then, those were made specifically for a sporting event and there are most likely laws on the books that protect institutions from such suits (like how airlines are almost completely held harmless when they cancel your flight).

The second big problem you run into is the loss of revenue from the loss of the LSU home game. There again, this is centered around a sporting event and there are probably laws that prevent such suit. Be that as it may, the only people who could claim a loss would be those that have businesses and then they could only claim it after the SEC/LSU/UF/SA make an official decision to move the game.

Third, you couldn't sue to have them return the game to Tiger Stadium, you could only sue for financial remuneration. In effect, you could win and the game would still not be played here. And I guarantee that were you to win said suit, the SEC/UF would want to spread the blame to LSU (possibly even SA) and they would have good cause to do so. Do you really want to incur extra cost against LSU?

Lastly, I highly doubt that even if LSU wanted to they could bring suit against the SEC or UF. I'm sure that in the bylaws of the SEC there are restrictions on members suing for such losses and also regulations governing the authority of the SEC to make such decisions irrespective of the member's objections. These would be bylaws that LSU agreed to when joining/forming the conference.
