Hey everyone. Looking for some advice on finding a new job. i have been searching for about 4 months and I am not having any luck with internet sites. Just wondering if anyone has any specific tips that helped them gain a leg up? Thanks in advance for any responses.

I have a political science degree. Was looking to maybe get into sales but I have no prior sales experience. I just have logistics experience as of now.

Go sell insurance.
State Farm will hire anyone with a decent look and resume.
Pay will be 30k plus commission if you're lucky.
If it works, it works.
If it doesn't, you have sales experience + the connections from insurance and networking.
Join some young professional groups as well.

What are you looking to do? Young and just score any job? Find a headhunter or sell insurance or real estate.

I treated my job search as warfare...I printed up tons of resume's and got one into the hands of every single company that I would even consider working at. I didn't ask permission or whether they were hiring...I just walked in and said I was interested in working there and asked if the receptionist could hand the resume and cover letter to a manager.
I wasted a lot of paper and the overwhelming majority never even responded....but I did get several requests to come in for an interview when most of my fellow graduates were not even getting a bite.
ultimately got a couple of offers out of the effort and a couple more later on after I had accepted another job.
you know the steps involved in getting a job...don't let yourself fall into the trap of finding reasons not to do it.

To be honest man. I just want something where I do not want to fricking scream when I wake up on Monday. I am in an extremely toxic work environment right now. Twelve people already quit this year and we only keep 15 people on staff at a time. I am not really that young. I am 30, but I need to make a move now. My family is in insurance sales, but I tried to avoid it. May have to give it a go though.

Do you know of any decent ones in the Baton Rouge/New Orleans areas? All I could find are resume writers.

Get licensed to be an insurance adjuster. Go on the road, see new places, learn about basic home construction and write people a check to indemnify their loss. Big money can be made too. Big money.

Work for the government. Average to fair pay, but you get great benefits and time off. You're working 37-40 hours a week and you never take your work home with you. When you're off, you're off.

If you aren't using LinkedIn searches.. do that. Companies have to pay to post their jobs on LinkedIn... thus, they are legitimately looking for candidates, as opposed to a lot of "internet searches" which are posted as a formality.
Also if you are financially ok enough, and have the work ethic to get hired on long term, look into a staffing agency. My wife works in a law firm... they get people hired as legal assistants all the time that have 0 experience in the field, but are placed by the staffing agency, who sells their interview, soft skills, etc.

I had extremely good fortune using indeed.com. I graduated with an engineering degree.
