ETA: It's funny how fragile a legacy is. If he waits until the WR is set, that catch is short of the end zone and the clock likely runs out. Etling would catch a ton of shite, and rightfully so because you simply cannot throw it short. Instead, he gets a penalty, giving him another chance, and now we praise his grit and play making ability.

Who said anything about a shovel pass? Get the stick out your arse Mrs. Harris

hope BH just transfers cause if you think a shovel pass makes DE a great playmaker where in for a long season as well as next year. This kid could take a shite on the side line and 90% of our fan base would say that's a great call Danny. I just don't get how we give this kid a pass for 118 yards in a game, that's mind blowing to me. 118 fricking yards and you talking about a great shovel pass. Unbelievable
I see you don't know anything about football.

Obviously. They started blowing it dead the second he hit, it was a first down.
Why I said I understand a 1 second run off. Not a 2 second run off because the play clock operator in auburn obviously didn't give a shite about pressing the button on time.

"You may not be a smart person, Jenny, but at least"...well, that's actually about it. You're just not smart.

it was bad because he threw it short of the end zone because had he waited until the WR was set, the clock would have run out on that play. However, regardless of the outcome, it was still a hell of a catch and throw on the final play
Agreed.

Instantly I thought of Joe Montana during The Catch. Those are un-teachable instincts at work. He is special.

I know what you mean but watching that gif and the clock, stopping it at :01 doesn't seem as egregious as some are implying.

Theoretically there would have been enough time to run another play if the clock was stopped correctly.

If he waits until the WR is set, as he should, that play is way too close for comfort regardless of how quick the clock is stopped. Without a timeout, you simply cannot throw it short of the end zone. The clock still starts on the ready whistle, and we saw how that turned out.
It was just a terrible sequence all around. The 3rd down play should have resulted in Dupre going out of bounds. Once he was in bounds there was no urgency. There has to be two play calls in case you're tackled in bounds because it's 4th down and you can't spike it, but no one seemed to respond that way. Just a perfect microcosm of all of the issues with Miles lately.

I hear you. I just think it's pretty obvious 2 seconds left was reasonable as well.
^ he's clearly on the ground after the catch (:03)
I noticed the refs hadn't started to signal in that picture. I watched the video and the clock was stopped before any ref on screen made a signal.
I did see Desean Smith fist pump 5 times after the catch before the clock hit 1 second. So I don't think it's too inreasonable for the clock operator to press the stop button in that span
40 second mark
^ smith's 4th fist pump since Dural has been on the ground. You can also see the ref entering the screen from the right, running towards the play likely while blowing his whistle (:02)
Also notice the difference in where Fournette is
I would imagine whoever was operating the game clock knew you need 2 seconds on the clock to spike. Just saying

You don't throw the ball short of the end zone on 4th and 6 on a snap that took place with 4 seconds left.
I feel like he made the right call? There was a ton of pressure and he didn't have any more time. Can't take a sack, can't throw it away, gotta make a completion, and hope you get a first down with enough time left (preferably get out of bounds) or hope the WR breaks a tackle and gets into the endzone. 89, on that crossing route may have been a better shot to get out of bounds, but still, I think he did the best with what he had.
If he could've lobbed to LF7 he was wide open and probably could've scored, but that definitely would've been the last play.

Damn LF was wide open on the release on that play.
