I just want to confirm the story of why LSU did not pull the trigger last year.

Summer through the fall of 2015: F. King Alexander is in a tough LSU funding fight with the state who is having its own fiscal issues.
Les Miles gets on the coaching hot seat after the 3 loss debacles to Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss.
Joe Alleva and TAF boosters make a push to fire miles. The most substantial rumor is that Jimbo was ready to make the move from FSU to LSU after the 2015 season.
Les Miles gets an emotional response from the team and fans at the aTm game that many thought would be Les's last game.
Given the fact that F. King and Bobby Jindal were under a lot of pressure through the year due to budget constraints Jindal stepped into the coaching situation and put pressure on F. King to nix the deal. The assumption is that F. King and Jindal were worried about the perception of spending money to buy out Les and hire a new coach while the university is struggling with budget issues. Even though the funds for education come from a totally different bucket than the athletic department, Jindal and F. King were still worried about the negative perception of their fiduciary responsibilities.
So they nixed the deal.
I'm just trying to understand the timeline and facts. Does that about sum it up? Please correct any information I have wrong or include any info I omitted.

I just don't understand the negative perception of the buyout. Why can't LSU come out with a statement that any buyout comes from private funds and does not impact the budget?

What these dumbasses fail to realize is that putting a good football product on the field is one of the best things for university and the state.

That's what was reported in the advocate. It was stupid then and it looks just as dumb now. Thanks Jindal

There's also a rumor some people reached out to Jimbo last year and he said no. Making the decision to bring back Miles easier on the administrations part.
Regardless, it should have been done last year, but the power-to-be were spineless, at best.
If you have enough cause to fire a coach 4 games into the year, you had enough cause last year. Not a good look and not good for the kids.

You know who could answer this question? Alleva.
I guess we can ask him when he decides to address it.

I'm not sure it was Jindal, he wouldn't be the governor that would have to ask for the funding.... but I'm not certain it was t him.

Alleva and King were on board with the firing. Word got back to Jindal, who threatened King with reducing LSUs budget, so King told Alleva to hold off.

OP---some of the truth but not all the truth. Aleva had leeway to hire Jimbo- he fumbled the ball and mishandled the negotiations creating a total PR nightmare for LSU- At halftime a meeting was held with board members and the decision was made to keep Les
There are other details- but the bottom line is if Aleva was out of his skill set in trying to negotiate with the best agent in football.
He does not need to be alone in the room negotiating.

While I do not know it to be true, there was another rumor I believed. There was rumor that Jimbo's agent, Slimy McCashgouger, came back the day before the aTm game and demanded another million per year.
This was the tipping point on abandoning ship from a situation that had already become such an abortion.
While it was rumor, I believe it.

Squeaky wheel or something...

I was at that game.
That "emotional response" from fans was everyone wishing Les Miles a farewell, appreciating everything he had done...not LSU fans urging the administration to keep him. That is something that has been thrown out and is just not true for the majority of fans there.

If there has ever been a worse governor of any state in history than Bobby Jindal, I'm glad I don't live in that state. Marion Barry was a better mayor (DC's version of governor) than Jindal was a governor.

You're missing the most important part:
Joe leaked it to the press to gauge public reaction, which to me proved that he was completely unfit to lead an athletic department of an SEC school.
This is the biggest mistake he made and it continues to hurt our reputation. We may be excited for the future but it's absolutely understandable how national media is reacting to this. How could anybody be surprised? When UGA fired Richt, they didn't flip flop and fight some sort of tug of war in the school admin, letting it all leak out into the public. They quietly squeezed the trigger - LIKE A MAJOR UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT IS SUPPOSED TO DO.
It's some bush league bullshite from a big school and isn't at all surprising how everyone is reacting to it. What did y'all think was going to happen?

No politician has even had such a negative impact on my life as Jindal.
Posted on 9/27/16 at 11:21 am to GumboPot
Its over. He's gone. Let it go.

The only part that you have wrong is to sub bel Edwards for Jindal. The term-limited, lame duck Governor would carry absolutely zero weight. He also had zero involvement with the then-up-coming budgetary negotiations which would not take place until AFTER bel Edwards took office

You leave out a couple points that are critical
Angelle is one of a few BOS when approached by Aleva and King are not supportive. The votes were there to make it happen. Angelle fears this is a political nightmare for him ( see the argument of spending money while state is in financial troubles ... ) calls Jindal and asks him to get involved.
