Money wouldnt be his major motivator on moving. Yes of course more money would be nice but it isnt his motivator. Also, UH donors have the money to pony up to match most any offer

no one has came in and acted like fricking Houston is the only school in the NCAA that has boosters, yet?

Tillman Fertitta will not let him leave for money. Money alone will not get him away from Houston.

I don't think so either, the only thing that might change it is if they got a Big 12 invite and were willing to commit more money to assistants based on more revenue coming in

Why does this all boil down to UT?

in your estimation, why hasnt he bought past coaches for the program?

Having the money and investing it in the program are two different things. LSU has already proven that they are willing to throw money around if needed.

Maybe he tried and Sumlin had other motivations to leave.

UT essentially decides if UH gets into the Big12. If they do then it will make getting him more difficult but not impossible.
If UT fires Strong then they have already said Herman is next. I dont want to get into a bidding war with UT.

I still dont see this happening. Adding UH does nothing but hurt every team in that conference.

UT, ND, or USC over LSU.
Don't really see UT shite canning Strong at the end of this season.... Brian Kelly isn't going anywhere at ND...he has at least another season.... With USC being in dumpster fire condition right now, I think it would be an easy choice between USC/LSU... IMO

I don't think it does either. It would be very dumb from the standpoint of UT/Baylor/Tech
Posted on 9/26/16 at 9:54 am to DBU
And Houstons football program just doesn't make any money. The Academic side has had to give the athletic side 21 million the last 3 years. If a top program like LSU or Texas comes calling it makes no sense for them to pony up more dough for an up and coming football program that doesn't make enough to pay for anything. And they can pay for Hermans raise, but what about the rest of his coaches? They will be poached like crazy and he won't be able to keep anybody. He will have more stability at other programs with bigger budgets.

Not only them but all of the non-Texas schools too. They all get that much worse.
Hell, UH in the BIG 12 would likely be bad for aTm and LSU too. A P5 UH with the right coach could be a juggernaut.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but one of the major hurdles I see with Herman is that LSU needs to have a new HC before December. UH has a high probability of a playoff berth and I don't see Herman making any kind of move/decision that could affect that.

Yeah, timing is everything. Nov. 17 is going to dictate a lot -- their game with Louisville. If he wins that and they have a shot at the playoff, I don't think anyone is going to be able to wait until early to mid-January to go after him. It's doable, but risky -- Michigan fans were going bonkers having to wait for Harbaugh to finish his NFL season two years ago.

His buyout and potential salary are only one of the things that make it a longshot. He could just not like Louisiana. He could get a better offer somewhere else, in a state he likes better. He could win a natty in 2016 and decide to stay in Houston. He might like the challenge of building a smaller program rather than going to an established one. He might go to the NFL.
I still think we have a good shot at getting him. Probably better than any other school. But that doesn't make it a lock. I'd say there is like a 30-40% chance he is the hire.

At possibly 5 mil a year I think he could get over that.

Currently no other openings. And UT likely wont be open and probably not ND either. At this point LSU is easily a top 5 job and none of the others will be open.

1% chance.
Im not saying its a lock, just that those who are arguing about him possibly staying at Houston are misguided.

Even still, UH would have to put up at least another 7 mil a year for staffing.
If UH doesn't get into the Big12 the money is going to dry up. The AD has been running huge deficits "investing" in football to get into a P5 conference. If that doesn't happen soon there is no more money.
Lots of pressure on UH to stop the burn now. If the Big12 doesn't expand they are screwed. Could be why UT was playing nice earlier knowing the B12 won't expand and UH implodes.

Right now, LSU is his best chance at winning national championships. In three years, Saban will be gone and Herman could be the king of the biggest, baddest conference in CFB.
UH may or may not be power 5 and still has to compete with UT, AM, and LSU for recruits.
UT is a rebuild job
USC is a rebuild job
It's a no brainer.
