Can't wait, a week away....
Where is everyone going after to watch the game?

I'm planning to go. Can't decide if I'm going to do the VIP option or not.
Not thinking the perks overall for that is anything special, but the early entry will kick arse.
What home brews are you all making that do that kind of stuff for the festivals?

I didn't go for the VIP option this year, last year it was rather meh. Only perk I enjoyed was the early entry.
This year just gonna go eat before the event and then walk over to the event.

It's my first time going this year. Is it the general consensus to check out the home brews over the professional brewers? If so, how do you go about choosing which ones to target?

Looking like this will be the first one I miss.

Same here. One of my favorite festivals too. Damn shame.

I generally go mostly toward home brews. Most of the regular beer is stuff you can get at bars with the exception of a few one offs and seasonals.
For the home brewers, I just read the style and see if it's something I like. Works out well most of the time.
Only recall two home brews I tried and hated, but I knew I would, but had to try it for the hell of it. VIP tasting at Mardi Gras World a few years back for WYES. One was a light beer that was supposed be king cake flavor and they put sugar on the rim.
The other was some god awful concoction that was brewed with crawfish boil seasoning. It really did almost taste like drinking boil water from the pot.

I just go every homebrew station and try 1 or two, I ask what their favorite is and usually try that.

Appreciate the background. I also see you can preload money into your wristband account. Although you can get the money back if you have a leftover balance, there is a $5 processing fee.
With that being said, how much does each beer typically cost? This will allow one to guesstimate an appropriate amount to preload.

We will be there with our Brew Bus on display and the LSU-Auburn game on TV as well (assuming the Mifi works, it tested fine this morning).
Come by and say hey!

Tell me more about this brew bus

This is the first year for the bracket, before you bought a bracket with so many tabs on it and each beer from the homebrew side was 1-3 tabs.
So I can't tell you this year but with the braclet you can buy food and stuff as well.

Going to Gleason gras instead

Appreciate the info (both you and BrewBus). Was it 1 ticket = $1 or 1 ticket = $5? Trying to tell the crew coming in what to expect.

I've done the 50 dollar package and 90 VIP and both of those were more than enough. The difference was mainly the souvenirs. This year I did the 40 dollar package since I don't need another T-shirt.

Found this from their website. Didn't realize you can do the smaller pours.
quote:
3oz sample pours will range from 1-3 Bocks. (Most commercial beers will be 1 Bock, while Homebrew and more rare commercial beers will be 2 Bocks, with some really rare commercial beers will be 3 Bocks.)
9oz full pours from commercial beers will range from 3-7 Bocks.
3oz Homebrew and Brewpub pours are 2 Bocks each.
