I think the fact she did it knowing she would get all the attention, even though this game was really all about honoring the retiring Heather O'Reilly, shows how petty she really is.

frick her. She shouldnt get another call up ever

But if I was a coach I wouldn't tolerate it just because we are a team and you are taking it upon yourself to direct all the attention on you. That's just selfish bull shite. Be an activist on your own dime. I'm paying you to stand with this team. Either do it or move on.
Also, a coach's job is to win games. I don't want a player on my team if she doesn't take pride in the name on the front of her jersey.

They're protesting the symbol of what gives them to right to protest. Seems ironic.
If they want to bring awareness to issues with justice or law enforcement, why not volunteer in inner cities where these injustices are taking place or pony up some of the money they earn from playing a game and dontate their cash to said inner cities.

I happened to have ESPN on earlier this week and she was doing an interview with Sportscenter and said that she won't support a country that is "one of the worst violators of human rights in the world." I immediately hoped the USWNT would lose every game from there on out until she wasn't part of the team.

She should go hang out in Iran, where they execute gays, and see if her perspective changes.

Did she just find this out after the loss to Sweden? Because I would consider helping a country's attempt to win a gold medal to be supporting that country.

If I was in charge I wouldn't let her. There are millions of girls dreaming to be in her position to represent their country of birth, and she doesn't even have the decency to stand at attention during the anthem. I think it's disrespectful to everyone. If you want to protest, fine. But don't do it during the national anthem. If you want to do that then you should get the hell out

Stadiums need to just go south park with all this foolishness. The announcer needs to simply say, "would you please rise, kneel, or remain seated for the playing of the National Anthem". End of controversy.

Wow did she really say this? I mean, I didn't care about any of it before, but that statement is absolutely ludicrous. She comes across as petty and juvenile.

I tried googling to find that statement. Couldn't find it.

She needs a stern talking to and if that doesn't work she needs to be booted. At this rate she is becoming a huge distraction for a team that failed to even medal as favorites in Rio.

I just rematched it and I was wrong, she was talking about Thailand when she said that. My bad. Still though she sounds very mislead in this interview. Would also want to know what rights she doesn't have by being gay in America though.

You wear your country's shirt you stand up for the its anthem. She should never be called up again. She plays for all the little girls and boys that ever laced them up and dreamed of playing a sport for their country. If she wants to protest take it off the field. This country the one she is protesting gave her the opportunity to make a living playing a game.

She did nothing illegal, and is joining in a movement that may be controversial, but not illegal or hurting anyone.
As long as she is the best we have, or good enough to make the bench, then she deserves to play.

I shouldn't care but it's nigh impossible for me.
It's already been said in here multiple times, but she is playing for the National team. The United States WNT, which is entirely voluntary, yes? Yet, she kneels for the anthem, which is a symbol of the United States.
I can't fathom how in her mind she doesn't see an issue with it. "I'll kneel for my country's national anthem, but I'll don this shirt, crest, and colors, which represent my country."
frick. Love or hate it, but pick a fricking side, you twat.

I say don't call her up anymore. She will be too old anyway for the next World Cup so it's time to give others a shot.

I guess where I was going with that is that I don't see why she should be punished for not doing anything illegal. It's not in the US Soccer Federations rules (that I know of), and not against the law.
There are players that sway back and fourth, and move around all the time. If this wasn't part of a movement then no one would really be talking about it.
This comes down to if you believe in the movement to change policing tactics. I don't see how representing her country on the pitch, and making a small gesture towards what she believes is in the best interest of her fellow countrymen can't be done at the same time.
