Regarding 6/14 ~100 yards

I re-watched the game yesterday. In my (very) unprofessional opinion 4 of those incomplete passes should have been caught.
A stat line of 10/14 ~140 yards is quite frankly what he should have had, and we would have been over the moon given how well he ran the offense. Imagine how strong he looks if those balls are caught.
I am not saying he is the next Manning brother, but I am casually optimistic that he's not a sub-50% completion kinda guy.

Yeah, But even 60% completion opens it up for our stable of backs.

While the stat line may not impress, he sure as hell looked the part. Composed, showing leadership, great footwork, pocket presence, read through his progressions, accurate in short to medium range passes. It was definitely a welcome sight, even if only for a game.

Geaux Tigers, beat the cowbells!

Christ, just quit for god's sake...
First it was two passes that should have been caught.
Then it was three.
Now it is four.
Soon it will be 5-6-or-7.
Eventually someone will declare Etling was 14/14 and 3-4 TDs. This is how cows follow a bell-leader and then stack up in front of a new gate... it is ridiculous.
I guess we should have the sports world in HS, NCAA, and NFL change the way they keep stats on passing. No more attempts/completions/ints. It will be attempts/completions/should-have-beens/ints.
Every QB in the country has passes dropped. If it makes you feel better, than by all means warp the way statistics are kept to feel all warm and fuzzy. But for me, I'll pump the brakes and be a little critical of 6/14, 100 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 lost fumble... at least until he has a good game against an SEC team.

You would think LSU beat the Jacksonville Jaguars with the way some of you are over analyzing Etlings performance.

Why so angry? Gees son.
Eta: I agree, everyone should pump the brakes. But damn that's a flame.

I agree that those balls should have been caught (except for Guice's).
But if you're going to say that, the maybe the interception of the screen pass should have been caught as well. Then you're looking at a stat line with 3 turnovers.

You feel better now?
The whole point is that while the stats weren't there, there was obviously promising moments in other areas.

calm down and not freak out over one game versus an FCS opponent

It really is hilarious. 2 of his completions were a check down to Darrel Williams. Another completion for 18 yards was a screen pass to Guice that traveled 3 yards in the air. Most males over the age of 15 could have completed it. He over threw JD Moore in the flat by about 7 yards. The ball sailed over his head out of bounds. He overthrew Malachi by about 15 yards on a deep fade on 3rd and 2 while having 2 open receivers underneath. He threw an interception on a badly under thrown pass. He lost a fumble. This all happened against an FCS defense. But whatever 6 Heismans we are great again.
OMG he looked poised. So did Harris against New Mexico St. Then he played Auburn the next weekend

quote:not sure which 4 you have in mind, but this was a fantastic throw, especially considering it was his first play at LSU. a tough catch for a TE though.

this was pretty obviously the worst drop of the night
the other deep ball to Dupree was a clear PI. the CB not only grabs his right wrist but also pulls down on his left arm. the ball was practically on his helmet by the time he could get his hands up.
on the wheel route to Guice, Pocic gets pushed back into Etling and he cant set his feet
and it still just missed
its not hard to imagine those 4 plays going differently

in the long run this will work itself out. if he's a 60-65% guy, it will surface.

Pocic is not as good as some make him out to be. I swear he gets pushed back a lot.
AJ Jefferson will make Pocic have a long night this Saturday.

So it sounds like CLM offense is perfect just needs to execute and complete more than 6 passes
