What really happened in the 2nd quarter?

Yes, Etling came in. He had pocket presence and seemed comfortable, he provided a spark..... But I can't put my finger on why all of a sudden everything seemed so effortless.
Is Etling that much better than Harris? He certainly looked more poised but it seems highly unlikely that he's a superstar and the coaching staff would deliberately start the lesser qb.
Was it because Etling checked down/ looked at multiple receivers? This seems plausible but are our primary receivers covered that often? When Harris throws it seems like there are always 2 defenders near the receiver. Every receiver Etling threw to was open by ten yards. Why were they all of a sudden so open?
Did we run different plays with Etling? Or have different personnel sets? More shotgun or pistol? It sure seemed like it, but why would the coaching staff call difficult plays with a struggling quarterback, then after benching him, open up the magical playbook to call qb friendly plays for the backup? It makes no sense.
My best guess is: the plays were the same, Harris just couldn't execute. He was rattled and Etling was able to execute the more open passing game. I think we went super conservative in the 2nd half which explains the pedestrian passing stats. I don't know but I sure hope the coaching staff knows what happened.

Les thought he was going to show the fans how stupid we were. He expected both qbs to fail. When Etling looked good, it was lemons.

Every completion, 1st down, pass to a TE, pass for a TD, puts the pressure on Less. We've been told for the past few years now that we don't have the personnel to run certain packages and every time DE completed a pass, it showed that maybe we've been lied to. It was in his Less' best interest to shut it down.

We don't need a superstar. What you saw in the second quarter is exactly what we need, fool.

Insert sour puss les face when he had no laminated play sheet
DE looked like drew Brees the way he moved in the pocket. One step up, left, or right and he would buy 3 seconds

You know how ridiculous that is, right?

The really scary part about this is that some of your frickers actually believe this....and you are permitted to both vote and procreate.

He made the short passes look easy which is what they supposed to be.

To each their own. Live in fantasyland, Miles is an enemy of the program.

How often have we called short passes over the last 3 years? Seems like almost never

Look. Did I like the second quarter? Yes! Did it give me a little hope we have a playbook that includes screens and passes to the TE? Yes. Do I think we will contend based on what I saw? Maybe with the lower 1/3 of the west.
Everyone needs to pump the brakes on DE. Why?
1. Miles would have started him if there was a decided difference in the 2. I'm convinced of that.
2. Maybe the TO is what Miles saw in practice?
3. You can believe that Miles hasnt forgotten about 2014. he looks at the whole picture
4. Miles also knows he is coaching for his life and he knows how important possessions are in football.
5. Our OLINE and 5 star receivers are still not where they need to be. Dural couldn't get open and Dupree can't catch a cold.
6. This defense has lots of coverage issues. If not for dropped balls and a few errant passes, barely off, this game looks much different. The Dline doesn't seem to pressure much nor are they able to play the zone read well enough.
Here's the challenge to all of you, pick me out the wins based on what I said above?
MooState? - Mullen's defense beat a good SCe team. That QB look great against a good defense.
AU? - defense looks very formidable
Arky? Brute force on defense and offense will get there.
Bama - no
Ole Miss ? I can't wait for this one at home. I believe we beat them because our defense will get to swag. Not sure why I feel that way.
TAMU - they are much better on defense (and offense) and the QB will be under pressure - a lot.
MO? Win
South Bama? This is a decent team but win
So Miss - if we play anywhere near the way we played in the second quarter - win

You keep copying and pasting that stupid shite....I'm going to help you out here. While I can't stomach to read all of that wall of dribble, I can tell you one thing with certainty...MSU didn't play Kentucky, fricknuts.

Its this. The Purdue people warned us that Etling has a little bit of an interception problem.

Offense was changed to simplify things for the QB. LSU has the personnel to run a highly efficient offense, but Miles dialed it way down in the 2nd half. In the 2nd half Etling looked every bit like B Harris with the playcalling.

IMO, Harris doesn't hit Desean on that play. He would have thrown it quicker to butter fingers

I'm not too concerned with the int he threw. Dupre needs to fight for that one more

It was a bad throw but he was open. It was definitely the right decision - that's what I'm happy about.

Was it because Etling checked down/ looked at multiple receivers?
He also had very good pocket awareness and wasn't afraid to run if the defense allowed it.

First pass with the checkdowns to Williams tells you all you need to know. With Etling you have multiple reads... Both pre and post snap.

Etling ran the offense efficiently. There appeared to be no communication breakdowns which seem to happen way too much with Les Miles run offenses. You already mentioned good pocket presence. He is also the most accurate QB on the LSU sideline this year. He can actually hit a receiver 7 yards away. Another point, Etling was fundementally sound at the QB position. Notice during hand offs to the backs Etling stayed committed to QB fundementals by finishing the play by faking the play action while the RB take the ball between the tackles. This is so important because it freezes the LB for a split second which helps to create better running lanes for our running backs.
I hope we stop the toss dive now. It does nothing in terms of faking out the defense. Everyone and their mother can sell out to stop the run on that play. It's just a dumb play that gives the defense total advantage.
