BH checks down but he checks slowly which comes off as indecisive. Brandon is also struggling with accuracy.

Harris has had some accuracy issues, no doubt. Etling had some too. The biggest difference is that Etling strung together 5 or so nice passes that changed the game.

Why don't you pick the wins Mr Tough guy?
Straight up looking at a 5-7 or 6-6 season. Nothing better than that UNLESS someone saves this offense.

How often have we called short passes over the last 3 years? Seems like almost never

No...short passes are called frequently, it just the BH over throws them so far it looks like a long pass...

The bottom line is that the actual game play between Etling and Harris is very similar. The difference is that Etling A) looks better doing it from a fundamentals standpoint and B) the offense simply had a bit more urgency from the entire group. A is largely irrelevant but if B continues than Etling needs to play.

Slack..... good video examples, but you have to admit that it appears that Etling throws a better ball overall. Over the years I've become tired of watching BH sail 10 yard passes over the heads of 6' WR's.

I think we need a little gunslinger at this point. Not an errant-throw or rainbow-tossing gunslinger, but legitimately-contestable-passes kind of gunslinger.

He also had very good pocket awareness and wasn't afraid to run if the defense allowed it

He also keeps his eyes downfield when he is scrambling. My favorite play of the night was in the third quarter when he was scrambling and right before he crossed the line of scrimmage he threw it to a wide open guy who picked up a first down. Now, that was negated by a holding penalty on Teuhema but I can't remember the last time I saw an LSU qb do something like that.

Explain why Les looked so completely whipped at his half time interview.
You would think that he would have had a smile on his face and a spring in his stride off the field.

Because he thinks of the players as more than just players. He is a players coach and wants them to succeed and when they don't it's painful.

Miles has a lot of faults, viewing the players on the team as more than just players is not one of them.

Harris only moves back in the pocket in those gifs

I'm really starting to believe this. I think Miles picks players he "likes" and tried to shoehorn them in regardless of their actual performance. (That or this is how he is getting these recruits. By telling them from day one they will always have the starting job regardless.)

And almost everyone of those throws are off his back foot.

Actually despite stat line he still looked better than Harris. Dupre acted like a bitch twice, his line fricked a good play. He did well moving around the pocket, something Harris can't do.

The difference in the two is accuracy, awareness, confidence and overall control of the offense.

Etling took charge. just what we want and NEED a QB to do. the team responded.

it would not at all surprise me that that's what pissed Miles off. he doesn't let a QB be a field general. it's called micro management. and with most people micro management eventually destroys their ability to think and act on their own; they are constantly worried about the reaction of their boss and just do the safe thing, right or wrong.

Great post. Great example.

One thing about those clips -they all seem like 7 step drops. It seemed like there were shorter drops/ quicker developing routes last night . ??

Miles gets up by 3 to 7 points and goes into a shell. Look at his past and see how many games he just squeaks by. Every so often he loses games that he should have won. Hate quoting Saban, but he is correct in that if you let an opponent hang around long enough they will beat you. Miles continuously takes his foot off the gas. This results in poor play and does not give the backups valuable playing time and causes the next years team to be inexperienced. The Wisconsin game is an example. Miles thought he would win the game on the last drive with a FG and everyone would be happy with the game results. IF that would have happened the game last night would have been a nail biter to the end. See how quickly he shut down the offense in the second half last night.

This. Our latest quarterbacks have been all or nothing. I can't remember the last time I have seen one throw it out of bounds instead of forcing throws.

CLLLLEEEEARLY different plays. BH ran the old stuff almost exclusively, two WR sets. When Etling took the field, on his 3rd snap, we went to the "new stuff". On the replay, I counted 5 different possible targets, with the TE on a rail route. Maybe Les didn't want to show this stuff against Wisconsin or Jacksonville. I don't understand why he didn't run it with BH on the field.
