Not hiring Jimbo Fisher when Saban left was the biggest colossal failure of Skip Bertman tenure as AD.
Instead we got Les Miles.
Instead we got Les Miles.

The problem for jimbo at the time was he had no head coaching experience. That doesn't always work well ala will muschamp. Fisher actually had some struggles early at fsu but they stuck with him and he's gotten better as a coach and always had the ability to coach quarterbacks well. The result has clearly been good for fsu.

Sir, I suppose you forgot how we melted with Les Miles was announced as Saban's replacement. BTW, we melted with Saban was hired. We're LSU fans we melt for everything when we don't get our way.

What did Les change during his first 2 years. It was Jimbo's offense. I don't think Les even brought 1 coach with him from Oklahoma State

Yeah it's clear now that we probably would have been better off with Jimbo than Les.
That said, at the time, Jimbo had no HC experience so it would have been a big gamble. I can definitely see and agree with the argument for not hiring an unproven HC.
I'm more mad about the more recent time we could've had a proven Jimbo and screwed it up. I really hope we're not kicking ourselves years down the road knowing we could've had Jimbo but passed. Hopefully we can get someone in power that can make amends and go get Fisher this year, assuming he has any interest whatsoever in us remaining.

Most people at the time didn't realize the issue on offense was Les and not Jimbo.
INSIDE INFO ALERT:
Used to work out with the QB coach at Nicholls who was a good friend of Jimbos when he lived here. I asked him what went down and essentially he said - in his last year here, in a big SEC game (forgot which one) Les started overriding Jimbo's calls and Jimbo got PISSED. They ended up having a very huge shouting match over it and then Jimbo really started looking for a way out.

Jimbo did more QB development at halftime than Les and Cam have in 3 years. Sucks to think how things would have been had JBE and Alexander stayed out of process.

I mean, take out the 2006 Auburn game, and what was so frustrating? I honestly can't recall.
2003 LSU set records in passing. 2005, I think the Tigers won 10 straight? 2006 was the best LSU team I've ever seen, Florida game was just bad luck — the goal line plays and Chevis Jackson's muff punt (biggest play of the game, IMO)

Jimbo's guys on the staff in 06 knew going into the Sugar Bowl they were all moving on.

had to look it up - yeah it was Auburn. They had a throw down and Jimbo was done.

He is in a weaker conference, but he has only had one of the longest winning streaks of all time at 29 games that included an undefeated NC season where he knocked off the SEC in the NC (something no other coach could do). He is 11-1 against his rivals Florida and Miami. And he is 7-1 against the SEC including 2-0 against them in bowl games.
