Any upcoming IPO's to look at say at 10-20 dollars a share

I've got a little extra cash and was looking at something longterm to invest in?

Why does share price matter?
Posted on 8/30/16 at 8:31 am to TheHiddenFlask
well i didnt say i had unlimited funds . If i have 2k to spend and an IPO is offered at 100@share then i buy 20 shares compared to an IPO being offered at 20@ share and buying 100 shares. Was hoping to purchase more shares is all i was saying. I also gave you a downvote since you gave me one.

I think what Flask is getting to is that appreciation is appreciation. If a stock jumps 40% after the IPO it doesn't matter if it was $10 or $50 per share, you still made 40%.

I don't think the OP is just looking for 40% gains here.
he's looking for a $10-$20 IPO that he can buy into and then look at his account one day and realize that same stock is sitting at $150.
kinda like what FB is doing nowadays.

I did say long term yeah an amazon type stock would be acceptable as well . Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers guys was just asking. Any recommendations regardless of price would be nice even if I could possibly only buy 20/30 shares .

1) I didn't down its you until after I read this.
2) your desire to own more shares doesn't make any sense.

Sir, what the wiseacres in here are trying to lead you to is that share price and share count don't matter all that much. If you have 100 shares of ABC company at $10, or 10 shares at $100, you still have $1,000, and own the same percentage of ABC company.
Actually it does matter a little bit for what you are asking. It's very common for stocks to price in an IPO at the range you are referring to. What you are referring to is also a (very soft) screening mechanism for filtering out stocks. Also, having the ability to buy in round lots of 100 shares could matter for hedging purposes.
As for companies themselves, I don't have any useful advice for you, outside of stay away from penny stocks. But hopefully some of the others can share some names they've been eyeing.

Hmm the reason to own more shares???
If i have 2k to spend and an IPO is offered at 100@share then i buy 20 shares = 2000
if i own 100 shares at 20 dollars = 2000
-------------------------
it goes up 10 dollars
-------------------------
100shares @ 20 = 2000 now 100shares @30= 3000
20 shares @ 100 = 2000 now 20shares @ 110 = 2200

This is where your mind isn't tuned to investments quite yet. You wouldn't look at profits as a $/share basis. You look at profits as a return.
A stock that trades at a higher price moves more relative to a stock with a lower price. The stock price really shouldn't matter.
Stock 1
100 shares at $20 = 2k investment
stock goes up 10% (stock now at $22) and you make 200 bucks.
Stock 2
20 shares at $100 = 2k investment
stock goes up 10% (stock now at $110) and you make 200 bucks.

You're comparing a 50% gain vs 10%

Also, I'd recommend to stay away from IPOs. They can be especially volatile. Better to wait for the dust to settle

Jesus... You do realize your 20 shares at $100 would actually be worth $150, right?

This thread quickly went from "sup guys, any promising IPO's out there" to a crash course in teaching OP that absolute numbers aren't really relevant in stocks and finance. Instead, percentages and ratios are important because they provide context.

Come on... do math!
This has turned into quite a humorous thread by MT standards.
