He retired from his job as a park ranger, was having trouble with his wife and they have been separated for a few months since April I believe.

The guy had been coming to church off and on with my family for a long time. He has two kids with his wife and their both fairly young.

He was on medication for being bipolar and last night around 12 o clock he took a gun and put it in his mouth and killed himself. He was in his late 40s.

Its very sad, he was a great guy to me. He always said hello and asked me how I was doing.

Horrible thing for his loved ones to deal with. There's almost always a better way.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.
Suicide of a friend or family member is a different kind of grief. I just can't explain it and unless you've experienced it, you just don't know. So sad and leaves literally hundreds of questions unanswered forever.

Sorry to hear that. Praying for his family...I can't imagine how the lives of those kids have changed from his choice. With friends and family members who have battled bipolar...I can say that this guy's struggle was hard. There is so much undiagnosed bipolar out there.

There is your motive. My divorce has been really hard on me. It's made me have thoughts I never have before. But I'm not giving that bitch the satisfaction of seeing me throw in the towel.

Damn, very sorry to hear that.

A close friend of mine's wife just left him a few days ago, I've been checking on him every day and was able to get him out of the house this past weekend to come hang out with our friends. I don't think he has any suicidal thoughts but I know he's really shell-shocked and devastated right now. None of us saw this coming, especially him. I guess you never really know what's going on in someone's head.

You've come to the right place for sincere empathy and understanding of your grief, sir. The OT lounge is the best place to post word of tragedy in times like these. Now that you're in the hands of the OT you can finally rest assured that you've begun on the path to true healing. I, for one, am happy you decided to come to us for help in soothing the pain one feels after such a terrible loss. This is necessary......Life feeds on life.

Sorry to hear, Mud...

Ive had too many friends / acquaintances go that route. Its truly unexplainable. It really sucks to know you couldnt help their weight/burden etc. Just remember the good times. Remind yourself that you NEVER wanna go out like that also..

Suicide seems like such a pathetic and cowards way out of what most of the times are trivial stuff. But depression is a odd disease and can't be just written off. I have gotten depressed for some stupid trivial stuff before and thinking back on it I wondered how I got there. I can't understand how it can get so bad that you end your own life, that's how I know their was really nothing wrong with me. Depression is nothing to be played with.
