I know a lot if you probably haven't followed anything related to UAB since they dropped football a few years ago. Well they are obviously bringing football back and have raised enough money for a new athletics buliding, football practice facilities, & now close to a new 55k football stadium. Here's the proposed stadium. LINK Thoughts on the look?

Cut back on the those corner end-zone seats and add another section below the press box.

55k seats? Seems ambitious. I thought they would've built a smaller one that is designed to be easily expandable.

I believe they are building it in conjunction with the BJCC. So if the plan is for it to be next door to the BJCC. They will have to buy out a few businesses. But I believe it's mostly old parking lots over there

That's the big parking lot. Which is going to make parking a nightmare.

Where do you see they are close to a new stadium? I haven't heard anything other than a proposal and the $150 million number thrown around.

I know they have pledges for the football operations building but I dont think there is anything yet for a stadium.

Now it would be awesome if they can build the stadium in your link Uptown with solid transportation from campus.

Well it's actually 45k that can reach 55k. That's how they worded it anyway

Why?

A program that didn't get any support and got the axe shouldn't be building a 40 to 50K seat stadium.

It wouldn't be only for UAB. Hopefully it would be usable for a bowl game, Magic City Classic, maybe get the Super 6 (now 7?) back, etc.

I still hate UAB for what they did to that 15 year old girl.

I'd bet they will also use it for the bowl game as well. I like the look of the stadium. Not sure how they are going to put it there, but that's for them to decide.

How do you go from NO football, to bringing football back, to a new stadium. Wasnt the reason for no football it cost too much and the university was spending too much to keep football afloat. Now theres plans for a new stadium

That was the reason given. It wasn't really true though. It had made money, not a lot, but it was in the positive. A new stadium has been in discussions for a long time (was also part of the Birmingham dome stadium discussions).

The city would be building it to replace legion field. This stadium is in a better area, and closers to campus. UAB gets plenty of support when they're good. Their last season showed that
