It's all fake, including your religion. Don't believe in dumb shite and then laugh at people who do some dumb shite.

Peazey

Your statements sounds somewhat conflicting. In the 1st sentence you complain about "to get something" out of church as in you aren't. In the 2nd sentence it changes to someone "claiming", but gets nothing out of following the tenets.

So, you are saying you understand the tenants in the 2nd, but you don't get anything out of it in the 1st? If so, you need to gain a little maturity.

The tenants as you call them are fairly simple to understand and if nothing else, you can use them as excellent guideposts on how to lead your life. Not real sure what else you might be looking for?

Good luck young man.

If speaking in tongues isn't real, why do so many people speak in tongues? If it isn't real, why do many people understand the word of God within their private conversations which cannot be understood by others?

Point is, folks...speaking in tongues is very real.

What is this boards thoughts on the Methodist Church? I feel like it's a happy medium between catholicism and Baptist.

Speaking tongues took place in the earliest churches had a gathering of people that spoke different languages. Speaking in tongues is only half of it. Ability to understand was given to some as well. It was a tool God used for communication amongst the people at that time.

I have heard people such as Jimmy Swaggert use it and it is totally fake. He does not know what he is saying nor does anyone understand it. He is babbling for effect.

I have heard 2nd hand of it happening one time lately. The gift to speak and understand a language (tongue) was given to a pastor while visiting another country. He could not speak nor understand that language before or after that visit. I did not witness this. A man I trust very much did witness this.

Find a better church.

There is a biblical argument to be made for it, as I'm sure you would agree, based on what previous posters have posted, with direct Bible passages. There also was a need for it, as it allowed Jesus to speak to those who didn't understand His native tongue. So in that respect, I am a believer.

Can I say with certainty that those who have done it have actually felt the Holy Spirit? That's not for me to judge, although I obviously may form an opinion. I tend to fall on the side of those who think that is an actual language with an interpreter there, when necessary.

All that said, it is a small part of the overall message in the New Testament. in my opinion.

Cool. So it stopped after the time of Jesus?

what's supposed to be the "point" in talking in tongues?

Remember in South Park when cartman just says ping pong ping because he doesn't understand that Chinese people actually have a language?

It's the same exact thing. The apostles spoke in tongues after the Pentecost, one of the languages they spoke was Aramaic.

People in mass churches who "speak in tongues" think they are speaking Aramaic through the grace of God but in reality they're ignorant tards

Assuming the person is speaking in a language that is foreign to the listener. (For clarification, this was not necessary when Jesus did it, they all could "hear" easily)

The Holy Spirit takes over and you speak in tongues as those followers of Jesus did on Pentecost.

No dude. Jesus and he apostles speaking in tongues refers to them speaking different languages not some nonsense universal language.

He had followers from all walks and languages and it's also possible it's a parable meant that the word of God can and should be translated and understood by all languages.

But no competent and educated religious scholar thinks they were speaking nonsense universal language
