Do you think the Pelicans could win gold in the Olympics?

If the entire Pelicans team (coaches included) were to replace Team USA could they bring home the gold? This is assuming everyone that is currently on the roster would be 100% healthy. What would be our chances?

All Time NOLA?

Tyson Chandler/Jamal Magloire
Anthony Davis/David West/PJ Brown
Jamal Mashburn/Peja Stojakovic
Buddy Hield/J.R. Smith
Chris Paul/Baron Davis/Jrue Holliday

Yes that team would run through the entire international slate.

I shite on Tyreke, but he's probably the best on that list.

Only other 2 options besides Reke and those listed are David Wesley or Marcus Thornton. We have had mostly average at best at the 2 since we got the team.

I would have said France could definitely beat us, but they've already lost. I'd say yes.

Is the team only allowed to use US citizens?

Inwould think Holiday and Davis alone would give the international teams issues.

sure. its a weak competition this time.

accent in COULD.

France is #2 parker is old. they have a whole team of NBA guys.

that would be your gold medal game.

semi's = Spain is #3 Mark Gasol is still healing up and not playing.

only other way to lose would be if someone gets hot from 3.
I saw a bronze medal Lithuanian team nearly take down a USA team.
One dude from 3, over and over.

lol.

This fully healthy Pels team would beat the rest of the world this year. The field this year is just not very good. We're assuming that people like Diallo, Asik, and Ajinca would be on the team magically.

AD would be by far the best player in the tournament, and add Jrue, a healthy Tyreke, and some decent role players that are better than 90% of the world. Yeah, they would win.

all due respect, you're delusional if you think that. They'd have a shot but more than likely would be a bronze medal type team.

Spain and France would beat the Pels.

A healthy Jrue and Tyreke? that's scaring people? lol wut. Davis would have his way but both Spain and France have much better back court depth than the Pels. France has Rudy Gobert/Diaw/ Batum. Spain has Pau Gasol & Serge Ibaka. So its not like they are totally lacking in the post.

You are forgetting the fact that one team plays together year round and the other doesn't. That more than makes up for any argument over talent.

some of the top national teams have routinely given Team USA fits because of their familiarity with one another.

Pelicans have a lot of new, key players so its not like they are a cohesive unit either. Almost half the roster is new.

LE

The Pels really just have AD to set themselves apart from the others. Not to mention, every C on the roster is pretty much useless in the Olympic setting.

Team USA usually has a game here and there where it's close for 2/3 the game and then escape with a 13pt win. That's with a roster consisting of LeBron, KD, CP3, etc.

Would the Pels be favorites? Possibly. Think about that time you lost to the 76ers recently (I don't remember if it was this year or last year where you lost to the Knicks and Sixers in the same month?) it can happen and some of those squads as LE pointed out are pretty loaded.

By "fits" do you mean "lost by 30 instead of 50" ?

In 2012 they only beat Spain by 7 in the gold medal game. Lithuania only lost by 5 in the knockout round to team USA in the same Olympics.

Spain also played team USA tough in the 08 gold medal game, and maybe you missed the 2004 debacle all together?
