Total Cholesterol is a bullshite reading because higher HDL count increases the total.

There's evidence to suggest that the ratio is more important than the absolute numbers.

My total was 135 and my ratio of was 4.1 the last I checked.

Genetics is the biggest factor in cholesterol levels. The 2nd biggest is aerobic activity.

Troof. I have low HDL, which is mostly hereditary. My ratio is fantastic, though. Thank goodness.

I'd say more than half. Almost every male on my dads side has high cholesterol, including me.

Mmmm. What if one day we learn that cholesterol in the arteries is a reaction to inflammation on artery walls, there as a repair? And what if an 81mg baby aspirin would treat the inflammation in lieu of Big Pharma statins?

And what if the decrease in cholesterol (building block for neuron sheath in the brain) is tied to an increase in dementia?

Well, that was the thesis of a PHD who reviews other people's studies at a Pharmacy CE class I attended last year.

I understand that cholesterol is a vital part of brain function. Some societies with very high recordings have low heart disease.

I mean look Eskimos and shepherds around the Mediterranean. They're diets are high fat and they are very healthy people.

This NASA physician has written a number of articles about the relationship between statins and memory loss.

Get me a needle stuck in my stomach every two weeks. On a trail med to decrease LDL.

Yes it hurts.

Needle usually bends in my rock hard abs also.

Except that lots of people in that category already take low dose aspirin and while it might help limit clotting and inflammation, it's no miracle cure.

When I read this, I started focusing more on ratios and triglyceride totals. And, all of my other blood work is good. So I don't worry too much about this one number.
