I got out there at like 7:30am with friends and we brought lawn chairs, beer, and breakfast tacos and just hung out drank and talked to other people waiting in line. It all just depends on how you treat the wait. We just made it an entire ordeal.
Shoot me in the head if it ever comes down to me doing this for some damn bbq

Others to consider:
LA Barbecue
Leroy & Lewis
Valentinas
Stiles Switch
Micklethwait
Terry Black's
Interstellar

please go get John Mueller BBQ as suggested by some on this thread. If you do please post pictures. It will be an amazing accomplishment because not only has he been out of business for awhile - he also died
Did you happen to notice all of those posts were from 2016?

of course I didn't notice that. Who adds a comment to a six year old freaking thread?

The peach tea pork belly burnt ends at Interstellar might be the best current bite in bbq

It's like tailgating without any of the work of having to cook. Nothing wrong with it.

Yea except one tailgater is waiting for a sporting event and one is waiting for something that isn't unique to the area that can be had in over half the time. Very strange
You are literally eating so you can sit and wait to eat again

The social aspect is also part of the appeal. Some people genuinely like meeting other people and just hanging out. And yes, I know there are other places to do that.

Probably one of the most mixed reviewed places there is. I along with quite a few others that I know thought Interstellar was maybe above average but in no way #2.

That sounds awesome. Let us know what food they served and how it was.

Don't forget to tell them all about your sous vide brisket!

Just like the Russia-Ukraine situation, World War Sous Vide was an inevitability.

Wished you'd publish your own BBQ rankings. Trust your opinion more than TX Monthly's now.

Understandable. Note that I did not mention beef. Haven't been yet, but Leroy & Lewis for that.

This is a weird thing to bump a five and a half year old thread to say.

I went mainly for the pork belly. Found everything to be underwhelming. Even the scalloped potatoes that everyone fawns over. Maybe it’s just my taste.

Or your support of the Millscale Mafia.
It appears that I have a downvoting admirer. How cute.

Drive to Taylor, Texas 34 miles NE of Austin and eat at Louie Muellar's BBQ. He taught everybody how to BBQ including Franklin. Was on DDD.

The “Mill Scale Mafia” were the ones who told me to go. I’ll give them another shot cause I went right after they got #2 and I know it’s hard to scale up. Just giving my opinion. Probably my favorite spot in Austin ribs Moberg, Rollin Smoke. Small trailer, best tacos I’ve ever had.
