What makes your league different?

We decide draft order right before the draft, 12 pack of beers with 1-12 on the bottom. Whatever beer you grab is where you draft. Also we charge .25 per transation that is paid to the winner at the end of the season. Another thing is open waivers, first come first serve. Most of us set our alarms for 3am Tuesdays mornings for free agents. I'm the commish so always looking for ideas to make my league better. Anything else?

Open waivers doesn't make leagues good. Just the opposite. Terrible rule

A couple things I do..
additional -3 points if your QB throws a pick 6. Pick 6's are such momentum changers in real football, they should count more in fantasy too
draft order is determined by a separate draft weeks before the real draft. last place the year before gets 1st choice on where to draft this year and so on. Its a keeper league so there's strategy involved knowing which rounds are best to forfeit when selecting draft position.

I'll respectfully disagree Lester. It may not make the league better per se but it makes it more interesting. It shows who really wants to win as opposed to waiting your turn on the waiver wire. to each his own though, my league loves it

2 QB is the only thing different we do.

how do you get around the 3am alarm/open waivers scenario?

The top way is free agent acquisition budget(FAAB). You get a budget for the whole year, top bid wins the player.
2nd best way is rolling waivers. Waiver order is inverse of the draft order. You make a waiver claim, you go to the bsck of the line.
Getting up a 3 am has no strategy and is pure luck. If 5 guys wake up for the same player, the guy with the quickest finger or fastest internet shouldn't get him. That is beyond retarded

This is what we do.
But after the acquisitions are made, it still goes to first come first serve.

That's how it should be. If you feel you'll have to race for a player after waivers, just put a waiver claim in for him.

What my league currently does.

What we've considered, but I don't think it will be implemented this season.

Draft Order:
12 cups. 11 with water, one with vodka. Draw out of a hat to see order of cup picking.
First person to get vodka gets 1st pick, remove one cup from the process, and so on.
We do FAAB as well.

Probably my new favorite tool...we went to this last year for the first time and it worked great.
Our league does BONUS SCORING...so if your player gets 100 yds rushing or receiving he gets rewarded, or if you QB throws 300 he gets rewarded..
Bonuses occur at 100, 150, 200
Passing 300, 350, 400
Makes it interesting and give your something to really push for when watching games...especially when its a meaningless drive in the 4th quarter and your guy needs 4 yards for bonus...its fuN!

Is there a tool for this. We do this but email the bids to someone's email address and they check it then post winners.

We got a pretty nice (fake wrestling) championship belt that goes to the champ each year.
We usually try to get a golf game on the morning of the draft.

Did this for the first time last year and can't believe I ever did it any other way. Far and away the best way to do it.

This year we are leaning toward the last place finisher from last year chooses his draft slot and so on. So the previous champ is basically at the mercy of everyone else.

Does yahoo offer a faab?

Two things I think are good.
1. $5 per loss
2. $5 per pick up, priority begins in reverse draft order, then drop to bottom of priority when you make a pick up
This really cuts down on strategic trades and people who trade and pick up willy nilly.

We chug 40's and time it. Winner gets to pick their draft spot, then so forth down the line.
