What would keep you going back to work?

I recently retired at a young age from both engineering management and military contracting.

ETA: Wasn't trying to piss anyone off on here. Just had way too much to drink and should have not brought this topic on here. Should have kept the issue to myself and put down the whiskey. I am not going overseas anymore and enjoy where I am. I wish you all well.

I haven't fought, but if I had kids, I'd probably stop testing fate.

If not, I'd be open.

It would depend on the nature of the offer.

They must have offered you some serious $$$$$

My cousin says he will just do a couple more years.....something tells me that couple years will stretch out to a lot more.

When I think of what you do I think of a dude that looks like the biker from The Lincoln Lawyer who is contracted by the US govt to perform hits on govt targets deemed threats to national interests. I imagine you are on your land chopping wood and then a black heli lands and suits come out and you're all like, "I told you, boys. I'm done being your Angel of Death."

So I'm going to go ahead and say keep doing it because it sounds badass.

First off, thanks for your years of service. Secondly, the only visits you should be making over seas should be to a beach with clear water and a cold beer. if you're feeling up for another trip then frick yea! But like others have said, you've earned your time to relax on the soil you've fought for. Thank you sir.

Tough call for you man. Sounds like you're tempted but have doubts. I say if your heart is in it then do it for you but if you have obligations at home then let the new generation of young men have a go.

Whatever you decide, Godspeed.

I spent 12 yrs in the Army (SFC) and from my experience I'd do it all over again. It paid for my school and I have a great career. The Army will always be a part of me. Three deployments (2 Iraq) (1 the Ghan) memories that I'll never forget.

As far as private contract work, the $$$ is outstanding as you know. Not having arty, air support, and heavy infantry back up, is what would keep me from going the private route. However, you've managed to survive 14 tours so my hats off to you.

If you keep rolling the dice, your number will eventually come up. I'm sure you know that. So you have to base your decision with that in mind. Are you okay with it? Moreso, is your family okay with it?

Kids stopped me from deploying. Had I not had my daughter, I would have either died over there or would be there right now.

No amount of money get me to go back to the desert. None.

Only reason I would go back is if there was a group of people from my old squad that wanted to roll, I would do I for them, but thats it.

I imagine that line of work gets in a mans blood. You have to be missing the rush that comes with what you do. I'm sure life is pretty boring here in the states after doing that over there. Hard choice for you I bet

I can't imagine being in your situation...sometimes I think that was my calling and missed an opportunity to do something great in protecting the lives of so many...

That said...I'm not sure it's not worth the distress of your family and the potential outcome...Stay safe in whatever you decide
