How are you feeling about the upcoming season?

I am honestly uninspired...we have Drew, but unless I see something in the Defense in the preseason...I'm with Vegas at 7 wins. Normally I am pumping black and gold...but not this year.

Normally, when there's this much of a lack of excitement, the thought process begins with low expectations so that disappointment is minimized. It's unfortunate that we don't hold team leadership to a higher standard of quality.
I will say: you never know. I could be wrong about this team and their direction this year.

Im optimistic that we can turn the defense around (if everyone else stays healthy or relatively).
Rankins has a lot of potential.
Fairley has always generated a lot of pressure, weight and conditioning was his problem in his Detroit years.
Tull looked promising (as a rotation guy) before injury.
Pj Williams sounds like he's gonna be balling
Upgraded and revamped linebacker group

you were inspired enough to start this thread though?

cautiously optimistic.
i believe if we get the defense 10 ranks higher than last year will put us in a decent enough position.

I think the offense will be and need to be even better this year than last.
As to that other side of the ball...pass rush pass rush pass rush. I think our secondary can be very good but that won't matter if we can't pressure the QB.
If they don't see one emerge quickly in camp you could see a deal made to bring someone in before game one.

My biggest concern with this team is still OL IMO. Drew and the pieces around him can carry this team pretty close to a win every single week. However against stout fronts can Strief maintain the right edge? Can Lelito and Peat anchor the interior to prevent interior disruption?
Our season goes hand in hand with a calm and upright Drew.
Defensively we have cut too much dead weight and added to many talented pieces to the mix to not see improvement.

I feel like the first few games are very winnable, the road @ the Giants will be hard I'd imagine.
if we make it out of the first quarter of the season 3-1 or 2-2 that would be nice.
cause the middle of the season has a tough slate of games.
the opening game at The Dome against the Raiders has me all kinds of intrigued. Usually west coast teams don't play as well on the east coast for whatever reason and hopefully the Raiders will be full of themselves after being praised so highly all offseason.

Lukewarm. Offense should be fun to watch again. It's only a prayer that the defense is improved enough. It's possible, but I have no expectations.
But here's how much of a superstitious optimist I am. I am hoping that my lack of expectations is a sign that they will actually surprise me. It is a new year, and no one knows what is going to happen.

I think we will be a better team than we were last year. IMO, we will make the playoffs, but I do not see us as SB contenders. I also think we will have an inflated win total bc I believe we will finish with one of the weaker schedules in the league.

I'm approaching it like I approach my dad: I'm going to get ready for the fishing trip, but I'm scared of getting hurt again. Which reminds me, I better go sit on the porch in case he shows up soon.

I am optimistic because our defense will be better.
By simply not having Brandon Browner on the field, that accounts for at least 2-3 more wins than last year
I also like the young guys we have and knowing they should just be getting better every week, instead of recent years hoping old guys didn't get too much worse... this is exciting

OT: and I know it's been discussed before, but it absolutely infuriates me to know that ESPN spends soooo much time covering training camp for the packers, Cowboys, etc, but the saints hardly ever get any air time...
I know, it's like this every year but frick, the packers weren't the only team to start camp today
ETA: to answer the OP, I'm ecstatic about this season, well, because it's fricking football ... However, I'm really unsure about Dennis Allen and whether or not he can turn this defense around... He hasn't shown me anything special but at the same time, he hasn't given me any reason to think that he couldn't.... I've said it before and I'll say it again I'm sure, but this season hinges on him... You know (about) what you're gonna get from Drew and company.. The question to me is whether or not DA can successfully scheme against opposing offenses because in all actuality, I don't think our defensive personnel is all that bad

I think 10-6, MAYBE 11-5, is the ceiling.
I felt a lot better with a 2nd year Kikaha opposite of Cam, but now there's a HUGE question mark at that spot. Maybe Fairley and Rankins can provide some interior push, which would help tremendously. I also don't feel too great about another year of Strief at RT, and either Kelemete or Lelito at Guard.
Hopefully some of the younger guys (Richardson, Daivson on DL; Peat, Kelemete, Lelito on OL) take another step forward in their development and give us help there. As of now, our two biggest weaknesses are OL and DL, which are the worst two spots to be weak at.
On a more positive side:
-Our LB group looks to be stronger and deeper than in recent years. Ellerbe's health could be make-or-break for this group though, which is scary.
-I am excited about the receivers, including the addition of Fleener. Cooks, Snead, Thomas, and Fleener are as talented of a group as we've had there in a while. Ingram has improved a pass catcher, and a healthy Spiller can only help.

I think we're going to be better than 7 wins. In fact, I expect our defense to be better. I'm not saying they'll be a dominant defense, but much improved.
10-6 and with a Wild Card.

can't be much worse. At the very least, organizationally it'll be better and won't quite look like the absolute clown show it appeared to be on most Sundays last season.

If we have good guard play, I think this will be the 3rd or 4th best offense under Brees and Payton and can make up for the shortcomings we'll have on an improved defense.
But I don't have much faith in the G position.

i don't have much hope for a championship, or even the playoffs tbh, but, regardless, i'll be in front the TV every sunday/monday hoping like hell they can pull it off...
