The member of the football staff requested anonymity because of the private nature of the team meeting, but said Schiano looked "tired, beaten up and physically exhausted." He said the Michigan job was Schiano's if he wanted it, but the job was never officially offered.
michigan sources....did michigan vote for john kerry? 'i voted for it before i voted against it' or whatever kerry said.

greg schiano -- the head coach at RUTGERS turned michigan down ... it's getting really bad for the maze and blue ... cam cameron isn't interested in jumping ship from the potential 0-16 dolphins to take the job !!! les miles pretty much looks like jesus with a penis to these guys now and they will stop at nothing at this point to save face ...

You would be better off without him. He will fit in well at ichigan.
If he was the coach at tOSU I would be nervous that he would say something to embarrass the University...

Does seem crazy that he would leave a superior program to go North, but who can truely understand the scUM mind?
As an OSU fan, I am hoping he makes the move!! Looking forward to writing Lles for his first OSU loss at UM.
LSU would be undefeated with a better game day coach, IMHO. You good LSU people deserve better!

I didnt mean that literally smart arse. There are ways to let Michigan know in on uncertain terms that there is zero interest without flaming the media. What rock do you live under ?

San Diego Buckeye, If history teaches us anything the scales will again tip Michigans way. Also you should check the alltime series record. scoreboard baby. And don't tell me the past doesn't matter. This rivalry is what it is today because of its history.

Another scUM fan, hanging onto the days when there were no face mask and leather helmets. That's all you have now days, huh?
You have to thank Ohio for ALL your success over the last 30 years or so. Bo, Ohio boy. Last two Heisman winners from Michigan, Ohio boys. And now you are going after another Ohio boy that went down south, where he belongs. I hope he stays at LSU, we don't need the likes of him stinking up the Big 10.

he agreed to leave.
He did? I guess you have access to insider information that NO media outlets have.

Ok, I guess you believe EVERYTHING you hear. Maybe you're speaking directly to Herbstreit himself.

Miles is bringing all this on himself by even talking to Michigan. If he wasn't interested he didn't need to take the call.

This is all originating from the Detroit Free Press. How convenient, Mr. Mitch Albom.

Michigan was probably wanting to get the inside scoop on how to defend against the Gator offense.

If you think the call Friday, the visit Saturday and the call yesterday were only to solict Miles' advice....hard to believe this much effort, this quickly to simply extend a courtesy. Rumor here is an offer was made....probably rumor but makes for interestting fodder...

Again, not saying this is definitely not true, but haven't we learned anything from the Kirk Herbstreit debacle?

Why did the buyout stay the same? Why isn't there a 6m buyout like Tubberville has at Aubby?

I was told that Miles had signed a contract extension with Oklahoma State the week before he left for LSU. Do any of you remember this?
Saban announced he was leaving on December 25.
Sometime in the month before this, Miles signed an extension with Oklahoma State, but I haven't been able to find the exact date. The newspapers apparently didn't report the extension until Miles was mentioned in connection with the LSU job, and then they mentioned only that an extension had been signed. Birdwell was quoted as saying it had been signed within the last 30 days, meaning it could have been signed well before (and likely was) Miles' name was first mentioned in connection with the LSU job.
Whether this is different from the current situation, I will leave to others to decide.
A few more details:
On December 27, newspaper reports indicated that Miles was one of the names that LSU was likely to be considering. At the time, speculation was swirling around Petrino, Houston Nutt, Bobby Taylor, Jack Del Rio, Terry Robiskie among others, along with Miles. Petrino had been in contact and had discussions/interview with LSU almost immediately. LSU had permission to talk to Nutt, and had reportedly inverviewed Taylor.
Sometime shortly thereafter, LSU reportedly contacted Miles, had initial discussions with him in San Antonio at the time of the Alamo Bowl. On Dec. 31, while Miles reportedly had met with LSU official in San Antonio, Miles stated that he had not had no plans to interview for the position. He returned from San Antonio to Stillwater. (My guess is that LSU contacted Miles again, probably on the 1st. and the agreement was reached in prinicpal, but with some details left to be decided).
On Jan 2, papers were reporting that Miles was the leading candidate and would likely get an offer than day. The announcement was made on Jan. 3, after Miles traveled from Stillwater to Baton Rouge on Jan. 2.
Petrino withdrew his name from consideration on the Saturday before the Monday that the announcement of Miles hiring was made. (Petrino had signed a contract extension a few days before he had discussions with LSU about the opening.) Nutt had withdrawn several days before that (Dec. 29, just after LSU was given permission to talk to him). Del Rio never interviewed.
During the time leading up to and immediately following the bowl, Miles never denied interest in the LSU job, but he also did not confirm his interest either.
The Ok. State AD never gave permission to LSU to talk to Miles, but then he also said that "I never give permission to talk to our coaches."
On December 29, the newspapers reported that Miles declined to comment on any contact or discussions with LSU.
