Demogorgon also resembles the Gorgon in Destiny in an abstract way. Dam the Gorgon's labyrinth, perhaps i'm just scarred.

but anybody have any explanation on why Chief Hopper gets in the car with bad people at the end. Thought I missed something

No idea. I thought it was just to reinforce the idea that "you saw nothing here" type of thing. But then when he leaves food and waffles in a box in the snow, i was like "WTF"? And then it got me thinking that maybe El wasn't dead.

This was an excellent show and i loved every part of it. Winona's character wore me down though. I told my wife, that must be exhausting playing that character.

Apologies if this has been discussed but is this the same chord progression that the show uses or is it just that the synths are really throwing me off. Listen to the synths only and don't give up after the first 3 seconds, more comes in shortly after that is also so similar to what the show used:

I don't know if S U R V I V E sampled the Eurythmics, but they nailed the feel of the show with that intro music.

I binged last week and I miss having it to watch...really well done show.

Question I have is the significance of the stuffed animal Hopper picked up while in the upside down. Was that his daughters tiger shown in the flashback?

Has it been discussed that Eleven's name should imply there are at least ten other's that the feds at least attempted to create?

Just finished it, and loved it. Like a few have said, that was pretty much made for me.

Key Points:

1. Characters have Agency - I'm really tired of most modern film and tv making where characters are often just serving the plot. They make decision based on points to push stories into certain directions that serve some means to an end. I felt like nearly every major character in the show - From Steve to Nancy to Hopper to Mike - everyone made actually logical decisions and the story followed them, rather than the other way around. This was huge for the show and really let each character stand out. It made it feel organic, and for a show that was steeped in nostalgia, it couldn't work another way.

2. Characters - On that note, nearly all of the characters were great on their own. Good humor and pathos, I felt like each one stood out and the cast had very solid chemistry, particularly the love triangle and the Boys+El.

3. Weird Sci-Fi/Fantasy Bend - Using nerds and dungeons and dragons to bridge together what could have been confusing lingo for the move was fantastic. This put everything in real terms. The show allowed the boys to frame the viewer's perspective of weird events, just so well done.

4. Just Enough Questions, Just Enough Answers - They didn't reveal too much, nor did they ask too much of the viewer. Although they left some strands hanging, they were important strands. And they put just enough mysteries in there to suffice an ongoing curiosity without bludgeoning the audience with "What's this..." "Where are we..." "Who does what...," etc.

Just a great First Season.

I posted a thread asking whether to watch this or The Last Kingdom, and everyone made this out to me the one I needed to watch first. I just finished binge watching it, and it was awesome. I actually had some yard work to do today, but instead I couldn't stop watching this.

So the way I took the ending is that Hopper is now working somehow with the government. That couldn't have been the only creature living in the Upside Down, and the fact that Will was in a cocoon with a tube down his throat that was obviously putting slugs to something into his stomach kind of proves an intelligence, and not just some predatory animal. I'm wondering if next season (if there is a next season) Hopper isn't basically running the government facility, or at least is in charge of dealing with the public citizens since the white haired dude was way too careless, and put too many citizens at risk (and thus risked exposure of what they were doing). And I think 11 is still alive, or at least Hopper seemed to think she was. Will coughing up that slug was just freaky.

Is it for sure that they are gonna do a 2nd season? If they can do a 2nd season without missing a beat, then great. But I think they are going to be hard pressed to duplicate this if they plan on using the same characters and expand on this storyline. I just don't see them being able to capture the same mystery and wonder if they try to just build on this Upside Down thing.

Me and the wife binged it in two nights about a week ago. Both of us being children of the 80's (class of '90)the nostalgia factor was huge and at some points I had to step back and say is this really this good or am I being sucked in by all the familiar settings. It's that good. I immediately felt the influence of ET and for some reason all the scenes inside the government facility reminded me of the video game Half Life. I was amazed at the acting by the children. Normally kids are hit or miss but I thought they all did great. I believe 11 is definitely alive and it just makes sense that she is the 11th iteration of whatever experiment they were doing to create her, so others might be out there that aren't as civil to non-threatening people. I can't wait for the next season.

I'm interested to see how they form a second season around Will. The slug has to be a point that plays a big role. I can't see them going back to El as a character, maybe as dreams but nothing significant.

A few videos I have watched hints that when the boys are playing D&D that there are no throw away lines. In the final episode when the game ends with the Hydra the boys say what about the Knight, what about the princess? People believe the Hydra represents that this monster is only one head of what's to come, the knight is Hopper who's path is not clear since he apparently is involved with the bad guys now, and the princess is 11. The monster is one of the earlier iterations of 11 since it showed telekinetic abilities by opening the shed door to get mike. Mike is a breeding ground for knew monsters ala alien. The coverup is also alive and kicking. Read the newspaper article on the bulletin board about Mike returning from the dead, it is full of misinformation. Also Mike might be able to smell or sense blood like the monster since he immediately focused on his brothers injured hand in the hospital.

You mean Will? Mike is Nancy's brother, El's fling, etc.

I don't think I've seen anybody mentioned this, but it looks to me there's a possibility the upside down world is a dimension where nuclear war occurred? The falling of what looks be ash, absence of living things, no light, etc? I know someone said earlier the creators hinted the Demogorgon might not be from the upside down world. While watching, I got the vibe the Demogorgon looked like something from Resident Evil or might have been created from some kind radiation. In the beginning, I thought Hawkins was dabbling in biological weapons(something like xenomorphs).

Dang that was good. Best season of series I've seen since Breaking Bad went off the air. I can't quit thinking about it. It's as if King and Speilberg got together to write a love letter to the 80's.

Wife and I did the same thing the last few days, 5 one night and the rest last night. For us we saw Potlergest and close encounters of the third kind, especially with the communication with the lights.

Even the music had an 80's feel. So good! One of the best series we have watched in awhile.

Will was brought back alive, but he couldn't find Will.

It was stressed early in the season how great he was at hiding. The upside down is a mirror image of this universe, he went to his hiding spot in the woods. Barb had no such hiding spot.

But it also gave the monster that ability to cross between dimensions at will. It grabbed Barb back into that dimension. It wasn't just a random portal that time.

1. She ripped the dimensions when she went under and touched him.

2. Now there is a permanent rip created a permanent portal. It also made the monster aware of the other dimension and ability to travel. It's akin to learning something was actually there. It was always available, it just didn't know it.

When they referenced his "cushy job" I kinda thought that the twist at the end would be that he worked for Hawkins Energy in some high up role.

This was one thing I thought about that bothered me a bit. Having been in a few DoE facilities around the US the communities around them are where those civilian employees live. Everyone knows whos parents work at the DoE facility. I guess maybe this one was a bit different bc of the nature of the research but that just caught me as off...but I completely understand why they had to play it that way in the show.
